Faxul

Faxul is the exiled heir who reclaims the Black Raven Kingdom and becomes one of Daneel Anivron's closest companions and sovereigns. A reserved vanguard who refuses to let low potential, possession, or inherited rage determine him, he awakens the Black Raven Godbeast bloodline and develops its power into one of Angaria's strongest Champion-level combat styles.

Biography

Exile and the Black Raven Throne

Faxul enters Daneel's life as another thin, poorly dressed boy labeled with low-grade potential. Determination and agility let him trouble stronger trainees, and the shared humiliation of being underestimated quickly becomes friendship. At the National Magic Academy, poverty initially keeps the boys from communicating between terms, while royal pressure makes association with Daneel dangerous. Faxul nevertheless remains beside him, concealing repeated beatings rather than abandon his friend, and pursues the demanding vanguard route so that weakness will not permanently decide what he can defend. (Chapters 13–15, 31–47)

His quiet loyalty develops into political partnership when Daneel begins organizing commoners against Lanthanor's nobility. Faxul recruits hardworking, oppressed students for the Domination Corps and supplies the analytical judgment Daneel needs from someone who knows him without being overawed by his plans. The revelation of his own history then gives that work a personal direction: a message from his father identifies him as the surviving direct heir of the Black Raven line, whose family was murdered after a subsidiary branch seized power. Rather than remain hidden, Faxul chooses the long route toward revenge and responsible rule. (Chapters 50–72, 110–126)

Returning to the Black Raven Kingdom forces Faxul to decide whether revenge is enough. His near-instinctive bond with the Protector Raven confirms a connection to the kingdom deeper than title, while witnessing soldiers die during the uprising makes him grieve for people who are technically his enemies. He accepts that overthrowing the regime will cost blood, rallies the population against rule by fear, and fights Tenebrol himself rather than let Daneel protect his pride in secret. A mysterious surge carries him into the Exalted Human ranks; he kills the usurping king, then turns from private satisfaction to the throne and the people waiting for him. (Chapters 221–242, 257–282)

King, Ally, and Sovereign

Faxul's first decisions as king reveal the tension that shapes his reign. He is grateful enough to trust Daneel's advice without reserve, yet he recognizes that visibly asking another monarch to decide everything would reproduce the dependency of the old regime. He therefore learns to weigh counsel and issue the final order himself, while supporting the economic and military alliance with Lanthanor. The change is not a rejection of friendship; it is Faxul's effort to repay that friendship by becoming a stable partner whose kingdom contributes rather than merely receives protection. (Chapters 282–320)

That independence is tested when the Black Raven Empire Spirit manipulates Faxul's desire for power. Mind Control suppresses his doubts and steers him toward a false breakthrough that is actually preparation for possession. Once the control lifts, Faxul sees how his insecurity about being a burden to Daneel was used against him. Unable to stop the spirit by force, he drives a blade into his own body to deny it the vessel and save his friend. Daneel and Drakos preserve his consciousness in the spirit's pedestal and place it in the living body of an ancestral Black Raven king, turning apparent death into a precarious rebirth. (Chapters 456–473)

Faxul accepts the unfamiliar body because it lets him continue protecting his kingdom, but his new existence remains tied to the pedestal and the dormant hostile spirit within it. Drakos suggests slowly devouring that spirit's consciousness and memories, giving Faxul imperial knowledge as well as another dangerous route to power. While governing and helping Daneel's coalition, he studies Champion Paths rather than choosing one merely for convenience. When his ancestral body's Black Raven bloodline awakens involuntarily, the resulting Baptism makes that caution urgent: failure would erase the self he had already fought once to preserve. Champion of the Sovereigns

The Baptism attacks Faxul through memory, doubt, combat, and finally temptation. It first uses a false Daneel to amplify his fear that all his achievements were borrowed, but Faxul recognizes that his endurance, decisions, and loyalty are his own. Its last trial offers him an ideal life as a beloved Champion king with a family and a dominant kingdom if he will abandon reality. He refuses because happiness purchased by deserting his real duties and companions would not be his life. By accepting both his motives and imperfections, he absorbs the Black Raven essence without losing himself and crosses into the Champion Fighter realm. (Chapters 574–580)

Awakening also lets Faxul navigate the Empire Spirit's memories without being consumed by their former owner's personality. He and Daneel exploit that knowledge to impersonate the ancient Black Raven, mislead Axelor's Empire Spirit, and maneuver the Black Raven Kingdom through a staged political rupture. These deceptions serve unification rather than personal conquest, but they require Faxul to understand and reproduce a murderous being's mannerisms. His ability to use inherited memory as a tool without surrendering judgment shows the practical result of the Baptism: the bloodline's rage and history are resources he commands, not commands he must obey. As conflict moves beyond kings and armies, Faxul makes mastery rather than inheritance his measure of worth. Daneel's rapid advances revive the competitive drive that began in their childhood training hall, and Faxul develops the Devouring Prison of Darkness by interpreting “devouring” as destruction as well as hunger. The technique can trap, suppress, and threaten Champions above his level, but its heavy Energy cost prevents a quick victory from becoming effortless dominance. Order missions then force him to apply Black Raven speed, spatial control, and black holes as part of a sovereign team rather than as a lone monarch displaying bloodline superiority. (Chapters 624, 715–746, 780–815)

The crisis around the false Overseer strips away any illusion that ordinary training will be enough. Faxul joins Daneel and Elanev in risking the Endless Sea because the approaching war will not wait for safe cultivation, and the resulting accelerated growth carries him to Peak Champion. His Black Raven form enlarges, his swallowing ability can force targets through otherwise protected space, and his battlefield presence becomes comparable to the strongest active sovereigns. Even at that height, he continues to measure himself against Daneel and Elanev, turning rivalry into pressure for mutual survival rather than resentment over who stands first. (Chapters 857–891)

Defense of Angaria

After Axelor's destruction, Faxul helps convert military victory into a continent capable of acting together. His experience as a king makes him one of the sovereigns who can examine governance problems from more than one side, while his Champion form supplies mobile defense and battlefield control during confrontations with the Order and Goddess's Sanctum. He accepts Daneel's elevation as Godking because continental unity is necessary against the Church, not because his own crown has become meaningless. The Black Raven Kingdom's sovereign thus becomes a participant in Angarian command while retaining the habits of judgment he learned on his first day as king. (Chapters 901–1008)

Faxul's long-term goal also clarifies as the invasion approaches. He does not seek power merely to keep pace with Daneel; he wants to become the executioner of those who destroy families as his own was destroyed, so that no other child must inherit his grief. That severity makes him quick to recommend eliminating enemies who may return, but he is not blindly bloodthirsty: he questions alliances that expose Angaria's back and helps review victories for hidden dangers. His suspicion is the mature form of the exile's guardedness—shared openly with companions instead of allowed to fester where another manipulator can use it. (Chapters 1030–1107)

During the Church's assault, Faxul commands and fights as part of the coalition Daneel spent years constructing. When tortured consciousnesses incapacitate the Godking, Faxul and Elanev physically restrain their friend from destroying himself, and Faxul also helps bind him with magic. He then takes the first strike against the Bishop's manifested weapon, using speed to pass through the Godnet and black holes to tear voids in her giant form. In the final delaying action, his transformed Raven launches still larger black holes against the Church headquarters, proving that his kingdom's sacred power has become a weapon for all Angaria. Faxul spends the last calm before destruction with Daneel, Elanev, Eloise, and Xuan, recalling a rare happy memory of his father and grandfather rather than only the murders that defined his youth. He joins their final human chain and later stands among the four sovereigns chosen for the passage to the Mainland. Angaria's destruction consumes the physical foundation of his old life, after which golden lightning separates his consciousness and carries it toward a new body. Mainland defenses split the travelers' arrival points and seal their memories, leaving Faxul alive but without demonstrated access to his identity or Angarian powers at the endpoint. Appearance and personality

Faxul begins as a thin boy in patched clothing, with low-grade physical potential and a look of determination. By his academy years, vanguard training gives him a stronger, more muscular build than Daneel's, and he matures into a handsome young man with sharp features and a stoic bearing. After his original body dies, his consciousness inhabits the body of an ancestral Black Raven king, whose face has sharp features, a somewhat flat nose, and a pointed chin; a sustained disguise lets Faxul continue presenting his familiar original appearance. (Chapters 13, 31, 72, and 472–473)

Reserved and deliberate, Faxul is repeatedly described as a man of few words who feels more than he shows. Pride and competitiveness drive his training, but his closest bonds are expressed through action: he endures retaliation for Daneel, recruits for their cause, risks death to prevent possession, and accepts counsel without treating loyalty as servitude. His greatest vulnerability is the belief that he contributes too little, which both hostile spirits and his Baptism exploit. He grows by recognizing his own choices as meaningful, allowing him to remain severe and ambitious without letting rage or another person's achievements define his worth. Abilities and power

Faxul is a Peak Champion Fighter whose main combat system is the Black Raven Godbeast bloodline and its Devouring Monarch of the Skies discipline. His early vanguard training also gives him a foundation in magic, but the corpus explicitly confirms his later formal progression primarily on the Fighter path. His strongest feats depend on an awakened inherited essence, a compatible ancestral body, specialized technique, training resources, and substantial Energy; they should not be read as unrestricted control over literal astronomical black holes.

Vanguard foundation and cultivation

Faxul initially trains simultaneously as mage and fighter, the vanguard route used for combatants who need a strong body, a magical foundation, and flexibility across attack and defense. Agility is his first clear specialty, allowing his rapid, disorienting movement to trouble opponents with better measured potential. The route's drawback is efficiency: a specialist normally advances faster and performs a fixed role more powerfully. Faxul therefore spends his early career behind Daneel in raw development, supplementing relentless practice with a technique designed to raise his low-grade bodily potential toward the middle grades. (Chapters 15, 46, 72, and 110–113)

The unexplained surge during his duel with Tenebrol raises Faxul rapidly into the Exalted Human range, but the exact mechanism is not resolved at the time and is later treated as an early expression of his bloodline. His reincorporation into an ancestral king's living body briefly gives him the raw physical and magical capacity of a much stronger vessel, although possession does not by itself establish equivalent skill. The later Baptism supplies a genuine Fighter Champion Path through resonance with Black Raven essence, and accelerated training eventually raises that path to Peak Champion. No similarly explicit later Mage-realm sequence is established for Faxul. (Chapters 279–288, 472–473, 564–580, and 891)

Consciousness transfer and inherited memory

After Faxul kills his original body to stop possession, Drakos anchors his consciousness to the Black Raven Empire Spirit's stone pedestal and transfers it into a living ancestral body. Faxul can initially move between the body and pedestal, and the dormant Hero-level spirit within the latter becomes a source he may slowly devour for power and memories. This is not ordinary immortality: a consciousness cannot return to a body whose capacity to house it has died, the available replacement must be living and compatible, and Faxul's continuing link to the pedestal creates dependence as well as opportunity. (Chapters 467–473)

The absorbed memories give Faxul practical knowledge of the Empire and the ancient Black Raven, including secret communication methods and enough behavioral detail to impersonate the spirit. Before the Baptism, taking in such a personality carries an obvious danger of confusion or corruption; afterward, knowing himself lets Faxul sort through the memories more safely. These memories improve deception, historical knowledge, and understanding of his bloodline, but they do not make every claim in the spirit's experience trustworthy or turn Faxul into the original being. His consciousness is separated from its Angarian body again at the endpoint, with memories sealed for the Mainland journey. (Chapters 473, 538, 577–580, and 1167)

Black Raven bloodline and Baptism

Faxul descends from a human line granted the essence of the Black Raven Godbeast. The inherited essence improves potential and comprehension and, once awakened, responds to will by assembling a natural Black Raven construct from the world. Its formations arise without ordinary control through Faxul's Mageroot, allowing wings, transformation, and bloodline attacks to coexist with whatever bodily or magical abilities he can otherwise use. His replacement body remains compatible because it belonged to an ancestor from the same line; before awakening, his instinctive affinity already lets him understand and bond with Ravens more deeply than other rulers. (Chapters 110, 242, and 564–565)

Full access requires the Godbeast Baptism, an ancestral memory trial meant to prevent an uncertain or easily misled descendant from inheriting overwhelming power. The memories try to break, replace, or tempt the candidate; failure means permanent loss of sanity and self, not merely a failed advancement. Faxul survives by rejecting both the claim that his accomplishments belong entirely to Daneel and an idealized future offered at the price of abandoning reality. Absorbing the essence produces full transformation and the resonance needed for his Champion breakthrough, while the lesson of self-knowledge remains a psychological defense rather than proof that he can never again be deceived. Devouring Monarch of the Skies

The Path of the Invincible Black Raven: Devouring Monarch of the Skies turns the bloodline's affinity for hunger, flight, and gravity into combat technique. Its signature “black holes” are rotating spatial rifts connected to intense attraction elsewhere; they pull bodies, elementary particles, light, and spell structures toward them. Faxul can form them on fists, wings, and talons, launch them as projectiles, or maintain several around a target. Because they disrupt the particles a mage needs, they simultaneously damage defenses, hinder casting, constrain movement, and make teleportation difficult when Faxul controls the surrounding space. (Chapters 564, 574–577, and 745)

His Devouring Prison of Darkness surrounds an opponent with three expanding, mutually reinforcing holes, swallowing escape attacks and locking space strongly enough to threaten Champions above his level. Its limitation is equally explicit: maintaining the prison drains Faxul so heavily that failure to finish the target quickly can leave him exhausted and vulnerable. Smaller holes also need time for their attractive force to become decisive, allowing fast or informed enemies to reposition. The power is therefore most effective when paired with his speed, surprise, allies who restrict movement, or a target too large to evade rather than as an automatic victory over every opponent at his nominal realm. At Peak Champion, Faxul's transformed Raven grows enormously and unlocks a swallowing application that can force a target to reappear at another location. Defensive barriers in the route are consumed rather than conventionally broken, making the ability valuable for rescue, repositioning, and bypassing protected space as well as attack. Later, his wingspan reaches at least eighty meters in sovereign formation, where his wings shield allies while talon-bound holes pull a massive enemy off course. Against the Bishop and Church headquarters, still larger holes tear apart constructed bodies and slow continent-scale threats, though these team feats rely on coalition support and do not establish Hero-level cultivation. Combat judgment and command

Faxul's earliest strengths—agility, sparring experience, and an analytical mind—remain relevant after his transformation. He studies opponents, accepts specialized training from Elanev, and can use both physical restraint and magic when Daneel is incapacitated. In sovereign battles he frequently serves as a fast flanker or mobile controller: he slips behind enemies, tears apart limbs or defenses with paired holes, pulls large targets into allied traps, and covers companions with his Raven form. His abilities also integrate into composite sovereign techniques, where the Black Raven contributes voidspeed and spatial disruption rather than simply adding another independent attack. (Chapters 15, 126, 277, 802, 936, and 1137–1139)

As king, Faxul brings the same caution to strategy. He understands the political significance of oath-based command, evaluates propaganda and religious symbolism from experience ruling the Black Raven Kingdom, and speaks up when an alliance or apparent victory leaves a dangerous opening. His blunt preference for decisive elimination can narrow his first response, especially when family or friends have been harmed, but he works within the sovereign council and accepts better plans when convinced. The combination makes him a battlefield lieutenant and skeptical counselor, not merely Daneel's strongest avian weapon. (Chapters 214, 282, 920, 1089–1107, and 1128–1129)

• Daneel Anivron: Daneel is Faxul's closest friend, political ally, and the standard that drives his cultivation. Their bond survives unequal power, kingship, mind control, and bodily death because Daneel protects Faxul's identity while Faxul repeatedly chooses loyalty without surrendering his right to judge.
• Elanev: Elanev begins as a trainer and becomes Faxul's elder-brother figure and friendly rival. His instruction helps Faxul prepare for the Black Raven throne duel, and their complementary speed and strength make them frequent partners in sovereign combat and the final journey.
• Protector Raven: The Protector Raven knew Faxul's father and recognizes the surviving heir. Faxul's instinctive bond with it reconnects him to his childhood and provides sacred legitimacy that the old regime's forced control could not reproduce.
• Drakos: Drakos explains Faxul's Godbeast ancestry, preserves his consciousness after the possession crisis, and guides Daneel through the Baptism. His knowledge makes Faxul's rebirth and Champion Path possible, though Faxul's own choices determine whether those interventions preserve or erase the person being saved.
• Eloise and Xuan: The two queens serve beside Faxul in the sovereign council and final defense. Their different political and magical strengths complement his directness, and both join him, Daneel, and Elanev in the group whose consciousnesses depart for the Mainland.
