Galahad

Galahad is an ancient giant who surrendered his individual name after joining himself to Angaria's Will of the World. He guides Daneel Anivron and four sovereigns through the final plan to escape the continent's destruction and reach the Mainland.

The last passage from Angaria

Galahad introduces himself only after sharing memory-evoking wine with Daneel's companions, recalling that he once enjoyed drinking and bantering with friends before becoming entwined with the world's Will. He explains that the Mainland rejects foreign-born bodies and therefore designs a passage for consciousnesses into recently dead or dying vessels. During Angaria's last hours, he reviews Daneel's precautions, manipulates the continent's core and Will in ways no modern Angarian understands, and coordinates the timing of the escape. Grief crosses his face when destruction repeats an ancient history, but hope replaces it as he turns into golden lightning, separates the four travelers from their bodies, preserves Daneel's body in Elysium, and throws their consciousnesses into the void. His own condition after that final launch is not shown. (Chapters 1161–1167)

Appearance and personality

Galahad appears as a gentle giant with a deep laugh that seems to rise from the earth itself. His gaze and scale communicate ancient weight, but he remains sociable enough to make artistic bottles, conjure remarkable wine, and remember friendly banter. He is patient, melancholy, technically precise, and capable of nervousness at the decisive moment without allowing it to disrupt the plan. (Chapters 1161–1167)

Abilities and power

By joining Angaria's Will, Galahad gains access to continental power, knowledge, and the ability to move through or manipulate the core. His remnant golden lightning can separate consciousness from body, carry it through the sky, sustain sanity during long-distance travel, and launch travelers toward compatible bodies on the Mainland. He also supplies spells for viewing the core and helps arrange stasis for Daneel's abandoned body. These feats depend on the Will, the remnant power of Galahad's people, detailed preparation, and Angaria's final sacrifice; they are not presented as unrestricted personal cultivation usable anywhere. Even Galahad cannot see Daneel's system for what it is. (Chapters 1161–1167)

• Daneel Anivron: Galahad gives Daneel the route to the Mainland and treats him as the planner responsible for adapting the ancient method. Their final exchange combines Daneel's corrections with Galahad's unique understanding of the Will. (Chapters 1161–1167)
