Dominic Viscargo is the attention-seeking head of the Viscargo Trade Family. Most of the public actions performed under his name in this arc—including the orphanage announcement—are carried out by the shapeshifter Lan, so they are not Dominic's own biography.

Dominic leads a prominent family with businesses across Angaria, but loses its treasury in Jordan's pyramid scheme. That financial collapse makes his later public pledge to fund an enormous orphanage suspicious to rival traders, though acquaintances accept the speaker because Lan reproduces Dominic's private knowledge, habits, and mannerisms. The impersonator uses Dominic's love of attention, reputation for long speeches, and access to the family mansion as cover while arranging loans and collecting orphans. The real Dominic's documented role is therefore that of the displaced identity whose losses and social standing make the operation plausible; the text does not establish that he planned the orphanage, approved Lan's conduct, or shared the shapeshifter's charitable change of heart. Appearance and personality

Dominic's full physical appearance is obscured by the fact that the reader chiefly sees Lan's exact disguise. His reliable behavioral markers include craving attention, delivering long speeches, and reluctantly avoiding alcohol because it gives him violent indigestion even though he watches other people's drinks. These details are evidence about Dominic because old friends use them to authenticate the impersonation, but the apparent compassion displayed at the orphan camp belongs to Lan's performance and personal awakening. Abilities and power

The corpus establishes Dominic's authority as a merchant patriarch, not a formal cultivation realm or named combat technique. His effective power lies in family reputation, property, continent-wide businesses, servants, warehouses, credit, and relationships with other trade houses. Lan's ability to copy Dominic's body and thought patterns is the shapeshifter's power, not Dominic's, and none of the disguise feats should be transferred to the man being imitated. Relationships

• Lan: Lan studies Dominic, replaces him, and performs eleven linked impersonations around the Viscargo operation. He reproduces Dominic convincingly but gradually redirects the scheme toward his own concern for orphans, so later motives under Dominic's face remain Lan's. (Chapters 695–701)
• Jordan: Dominic's investment in Jordan's pyramid scheme empties the family treasury. The resulting vulnerability supplies the financial pressure behind the staged loan request. (Chapters 695–696)
• Daneel Anivron: Daneel designs the broader exercise to awaken Lan's bloodline. Dominic is a selected cover identity within that plan rather than a demonstrated willing collaborator. (Chapters 695–701)
