Jordan

Jordan is a self-made information broker who runs a continent-spanning network of servants and administers the trading families' pyramid scheme. After recognizing that Daneel Anivron has manipulated his mind, he bargains to become a willing spymaster in exchange for a future chance at extended life. (Chapters 560–769)

Biography

A manipulated schemer bargains for service

Jordan first appears maintaining the hidden organization through which trading families profit from Daneel's plans. He edits financial records, conducts meetings, recruits new layers into the scheme, and extracts enormous wealth with such precision that Daneel credits him for its success. Unknown to Jordan, many of the ideas guiding the enterprise have been planted through Mind Control. Even under that influence, the scale and efficiency of the servant network are his own achievement, built from people whose access to private households lets them hear what official spies miss. (Chapters 560–696)

Jordan detects the manipulation by comparing his sudden ideas with the movements of Central Continent kingdoms and confronts Daneel directly. Rather than seeking revenge, he offers his intelligence empire and explains that he has already inferred a Big Four attack on the king's coin project. He wants lifespan, the last opponent remaining after a childhood of abandonment, hunger, and exploitation drove him to build wealth through blackmail, theft, and secrets. Daneel accepts the bargain provisionally. Jordan then traces hostile coins, supplies internal reports, and proves valuable enough that Lanthanor's leaders treat his warnings as operational intelligence. (Chapters 753–769)

Appearance and personality

Jordan's supplied scenes do not give a detailed physical description. He usually keeps a neutral, controlled face, but personal danger and a threatened relationship expose panic beneath it. He is analytical, relentlessly determined, ethically flexible, and proud of his mind as his greatest asset. His desire for lifespan is not fear alone; he frames mortality as the final contest he intends to win. (Chapters 560–561 and 753–755)

Abilities and power

Jordan is a normal human without a stated combat realm. His power is an intelligence network of thousands of servants across the Central Continent, combined with financial calculation, pattern recognition, coded reporting, blackmail, and social understanding. He detects Mind Control from indirect correlations and infers a Big Four intervention from one agent's forced silence. His network can gather whispers and trace distribution routes, but it depends on human sources who can be compromised, coerced, or cut off; Daneel therefore gives him defensive and escape trinkets rather than treating him as a combat operative. (Chapters 656, 670, 753–759, and 769)

Relationships

  • Daneel Anivron: Daneel first exploits Jordan through Mind Control, then accepts him as a willing subordinate after Jordan proves he can recognize the spell and offer more value freely. Their bond is an explicit exchange of intelligence service for a future lifespan solution. (Chapters 656, 670, and 753–769)
  • Eloise: Eloise receives and acts on Jordan's commercial intelligence as part of Lanthanor's leadership, crediting his warnings during the coin launch. (Chapters 756–769)
  • The trading families: Jordan administers the scheme that drains their wealth, then uses the access and information gained through them to support Daneel. Their resentment makes him a target even after he changes allegiance. (Chapters 560–696 and 753–759)

Items

  • Communication trinket: Daneel gives Jordan a direct channel for urgent intelligence after accepting his service. (Chapter 755)
  • Defense and escape trinkets: Three additional tools are provided to protect the noncombatant spymaster if his work attracts an attack. Their exact mechanisms are not specified. (Chapter 755)
