Clyde

Clyde is a timid but battle-ferocious member of the Sect of Hedon's informal Shameless Sect. He joins Daneel Anivron's Travis persona in profit schemes and later helps spread a provocation intended to mobilize the Big Four.

Biography

Schemes, training, and reluctant service

Clyde comes from a simple background and claws his way into the Sect of Hedon alongside other low-status members of the Shameless Sect. Although timid in ordinary conversation, he is the first of the group to reach Warrior and reliably handles the transactional side of their scams: he collects extra Ker Gems during the fake inheritance-site business, helps sell the cure to a deliberately created sickness, and advises the group to lie low when too much success might attract attention. Years later he and Jared choose to compete in Daneel's resource event rather than run another stall, then prepare to hide when war appears imminent. Percy defeats their reflexive attacks and offers survival techniques in exchange for risk; Clyde accepts and helps announce a deliberately inflammatory version of the coming conflict throughout the Sect. Appearance and personality

Clyde is a lanky young man with short hair. He is shy and cautious away from danger, often thinking about when the group's greed may draw retaliation, but becomes ferocious once fighting begins. Cowardice about the coming war is genuine, yet the promise of protection and future reward can move him from concealment to useful action. (Chapters 418–426, 930–943)

Abilities and power

Clyde is a Warrior-level Mage and the first member of his small circle to reach that realm. His representative attack is a compact globe of concentrated lightning and fire, combining destructive elements into a projectile. Percy neutralizes it with a smaller counter-rotating version, showing that the spell's motion can be reversed and deflected by someone who reads its structure quickly. Clyde's realm makes him stronger than the group's remaining Exalted Humans early on, but he is still far below Champions and depends on teamwork, scams, and caution to survive. (Chapters 418, 943)

Relationships

• Travis / Daneel Anivron: Clyde accepts Travis as part of the Shameless Sect and helps administer his profitable schemes. After learning Daneel was behind the identity, he views service to the king as a possible road to wealth, power, and survival. (Chapters 418–426, 930–943)
• Percy: Percy counters Clyde's lightning-fire spell and beats the group before presenting Daneel's assignment. Clyde follows because Percy offers a practical incentive rather than an abstract appeal to heroism. (Chapter 943)

Items

No individually named item is firmly assigned to Clyde. He handles Ker Gems, stalls, and ordinary sect equipment, but his lightning-fire globe is a spell rather than a named artefact. (Chapters 418–426, 930–943)
