Biography

Certainty shaken at the mausoleum

Ji Jin initially dismisses Chen Changsheng and Gou Hanshi's unconventional approach to the Heavenly Tome Monoliths, only to be embarrassed when precedent shows that their reading cannot be rejected so easily. He then devotes an entire night to helping Zhong Hui break through, consuming so much spiritual strength that his old injuries worsen. Watching the younger cultivators continue to advance despite methods that contradict his settled understanding finally breaks his confidence: he staggers, questions the cultivation knowledge on which he built his life, and weeps. His attempt to guide a junior therefore leaves both his body and intellectual certainty badly shaken. (Chapters 216–223)

Appearance and personality

Ji Jin is a middle-aged man with a beard that he tugs in agitation. He can be icy, proud, and quick to defend orthodox interpretation, yet he is also willing to spend himself helping Zhong Hui; his later sobbing reveals how deeply cultivation theory is bound to his identity. (Chapters 216–223)

Abilities and cultivation

Two decades of guarding the mausoleum give Ji Jin extensive knowledge of the Heavenly Tome Monoliths and enough spiritual control to assist another cultivator's breakthrough.
