Fivekind Man

Fivekind Man is the Wenshui Tang clan's covert formation of seemingly ordinary townspeople led by a blind zither player. Its members combine disguise, restraint techniques, and coordinated protection for missions too sensitive for conventional clan forces. (Chapters 843–865, 1013–1034, and 1157)

The hidden people of Wenshui

Tang Thirty-Six requests Fivekind Man during the struggle inside Wenshui. Government laborers, peddlers, fortune-tellers, elders, and a little girl quietly take positions across the river before revealing themselves as parts of one Tang formation, with the blind zither player as the “man” coordinating the five kinds. They engage Chusu in a battle that pollutes both banks with poisonous blood, though his escape shows that even their feared net is not infallible. Tang later brings the collective to protect Chen Changsheng during the Li Palace succession. They guard him, move through a secret route under the zither player's lead, and protect Tang under the pressure of the grand array. (Chapters 843–865, 1013–1034, and 1157)

Appearance and personality

Fivekind Man has no single body. Its concealment depends on members appearing to be ordinary workers, traders, fortune-tellers, elders, or children until coordinated action begins. The blind zither player is the recognized central “man,” while several elders are deliberately subdued and low-key. (Chapters 843–847 and 1019–1022)

Abilities and cultivation

The collective specializes in distributed surveillance, sudden coordination, and restraint. Six disguised laborers throw chains with a sinister, highly refined force later imitated less effectively by Ministry of Justice experts. The blind zither player's music coordinates movement, and two low-profile elders possess the group's most profound techniques. Their combined force can contest Chusu and help guard against sacred threats, but it cannot guarantee capture or explain unknown powers without support. (Chapters 843–865 and 1013–1034)
