Biography

Agent of Marquis Louis

Tim is Marquis Louis's commoner-born second son and a newly elevated viscount. Louis supports Tim's attempt to seize Faulen Island so that his landless son can inherit a territory, and Tim sends pirates and assassins rather than openly violating noble law. Leylin Farlier defeats those forces, and Tim refuses a permanent agreement when a captive is returned, preserving only a temporary armistice. His failures cost ships, agents, trade, and his father's favour, while his legitimate elder brother William takes over his businesses and receives command of the family campaign. Betrayal of the Gold Thornblossoms

Leylin exploits Tim's humiliation by sending Karen to offer him William's place and the title of marquis. Tim chooses advancement over family loyalty. He gives the Scarlet Tigers William's route, the pirate fleets' maps, news of Boruj's return, the port defences, the family mansion, and the tower site. This intelligence allows Leylin's alliance to destroy William's fleet and penetrate the Baltic capital. (Chapters 843–852)

When the defeated Louis prepares to flee with Tim as his only remaining adult son, Tim briefly reacts to his father's delayed trust but does not abandon the conspiracy. Louis is found dead in his study during the attack, and Leylin later states that Tim killed him and holds evidence linking Tim to the murder. Tim escapes as a spy with part of the family wealth, making him the surviving claimant needed to keep the fief from reverting to the crown. (Chapters 852–853 and 873–875)

Pledge to Leylin

In the imperial capital, Tim discovers that royal blood and old contacts are insufficient to secure the title while other nobles seek to divide his inheritance. Leylin offers political backing in exchange for Tim's testimony clearing him of the pirate massacre. Tim accepts after Leylin demonstrates influence over the court, blames the Barbarians before the king, and becomes Marquis Gold Thornblossom. He then transfers his capital mansion to Leylin and pledges allegiance in return for an alliance that protects his position. (Chapters 873–878)

Tim remains useful because he is the crown's vassal and the most influential surviving noble in the outer seas, but the relationship is coercive. Leylin retains proof of the patricide and never trusts him. Tim avoids opposing the Faulens, supports their later petition for expanded land and rank, and receives secret trainees for Leylin's developing church network. (Chapters 878, 923, 941, and 961)

Appearance and personality

Tim resembles his father but is younger, with a fair face and long, narrow eyes. He masks resentment behind courtly submission until humiliation and envy overwhelm his loyalty. He is vindictive, sexually predatory, and willing to destroy his own family to take William's place, yet also perceptive enough to recognise coercive leverage and negotiate when open resistance is hopeless. After gaining the title, fear of Leylin and desire for profit keep him outwardly cooperative. (Chapters 817, 840–844, and 874–878)

Magic, bloodline, and abilities

• Noble authority and access: Tim's viscountcy, royal kinship, and position inside the Gold Thornblossom household give him access to military routes, port fortifications, household defences, and family plans. These are institutional privileges and intelligence assets, not magical abilities. (Chapters 803, 844, and 852)
• Espionage and testimony: As Leylin's internal source, Tim supplies maps and operational details that bypass the marquis's prepared defences. Later, his standing as victim and heir lets his testimony redirect the royal investigation toward the Barbarians and legitimise the political settlement. (Chapters 844, 852, and 876–877)
• Political limitations: Tim cannot secure the marquisate through status alone once Louis dies. His contacts abandon him, and Leylin's evidence of patricide prevents an independent break. His later authority rests on crown recognition, inherited land, and Leylin's backing rather than demonstrated combat or spellcasting. (Chapters 873–878)
