Garnak

Garnak is the name used for a powerful wolf-like lineage of Horned Beasts in Chaos, not one continuous individual. The supplied chapters separately describe material from a young Five-Horned Garnak, a pack of factory-produced Garnaks, and a rare Eight-Horned specimen called Garniak; these should not be merged into a single biography.

Biography

Arrival in Chaos and Gorgon to Ancient Gods and the Grand Auction

Jaehwan arrives at Twilight Dusk carrying several Garnak horns from beasts he says he hunted before reaching Gorgon; the craftsmen judge one smooth specimen likely to have come from a young Garnak. One horn feeds the evolving Ice Dragon Sword, another becomes compensation for a ruined commission, and Jaehwan and Meikal forge a third into the scabbard of Solitary Unbowed. Processing reveals that the horn had already been artificially Processed before becoming part of a beast, foreshadowing the later discovery that Horned Beasts are manufactured. The scabbard inherits Garnak's Majesty and repeatedly projects the roar or presence of a massive Garnak, but those manifestations are item effects rather than later appearances of the slain animals. (Chapters 23–33, 49, and 160)

At the Bizarre Factory, the Abyss Expedition meets living Garnaks in large numbers for the first time. A pack of Five-Horned specimens surrounds an Eight-Horned leader more than ten meters tall. The leader reacts angrily to Jaehwan's Garnak-horn scabbard and attacks with the pack; the expedition defeats and disassembles it. Inside the factory, the same Eight-Horned body is carried to a processing platform and taken apart for repair, looking toward Jaehwan with mournful eyes. JOHNIAC calls it Garniak, says one is difficult enough to produce only once every ten years, and describes heavy losses of such specimens in battles with Nether Ghost Envoys. (Chapters 87–88)

The Five-Horned horn remains valuable in Chaos but eventually reaches its material limit. By the time Jaehwan brings the scabbard to the Abyss workshop, repeated battles have nearly exhausted its durability, and every recent enemy he has faced is strong enough to hunt an ordinary Garnak alone. This decline concerns the old scabbard's usefulness, not the extinction of the Garnak lineage; the factory and its repair process remain intact at the last direct encounter. (Chapters 160 and 180)

Appearance and personality

Ordinary Garnaks are named wolf-like Five-Horned Beasts. Young horns can be smooth, flawless, and large enough to overwhelm human craftsmen, while adults are regarded as exceptionally powerful and savage. The factory pack's leader stands well over ten meters tall and bears eight menacing horns, with one roar strong enough to knock nearby Five-Horned Garnaks through the dust. (Chapters 23, 27–28, 32, and 87)

Because Garnak denotes a manufactured beast lineage, it has no single personality. The Five-Horned members charge as a pack under their leader, while the damaged Eight-Horned Garniak displays recognizable fury toward the scabbard and later mournful awareness during repairs. The chapters do not establish humanlike motives beyond those immediate reactions and the instincts programmed by the factory. (Chapters 87–88)

Powers and limitations

Horn grade and physical force

Garnaks are dangerous enough that several Fourth Adapters working together are used as the ordinary benchmark for confronting one Five-Horned adult. Horn count corresponds broadly to power but does not produce a perfectly fixed combat value. The Eight-Horned Garniak is described as a threat that even a Chief Commander-class Lord would struggle to face, while the later Abyss power scale renders an ordinary Five-Horned Garnak comparatively weak. (Chapters 27–29, 32, 87, and 180)

Garnak's Majesty

Garnak's Majesty is an innate effect preserved in processed horn. When the scabbard activates it, beasts no stronger than Three-Horned grade tremble or open a path, and human Adapters can freeze under the projected presence of a massive Garnak. Stronger or special Horned Beasts resist it, including the Five-Horned pack and Eight-Horned leader at the factory. Its range and exact interaction with equal-grade Garnaks are not quantified. (Chapters 26, 29, and 87)

Manufactured biology

The Bizarre Factory creates Horned Beasts from fabricated skeletons and hides, then infuses them with egos and programmed instincts. Garniak can be disassembled for inspection and repair after being ground apart, showing that destruction in battle is not necessarily permanent while the factory retains the body. Production remains costly and slow for the Eight-Horned model, and Nether Ghost Envoys have inflicted substantial losses on the available stock. (Chapters 26 and 87–88)

Relationships

  • Jaehwan: Jaehwan hunts young Garnaks for their horns, carries Garnak's Majesty through his scabbard, and defeats the Eight-Horned leader at the factory. His later opponents define the point at which Five-Horned material can no longer protect his weapon. (Chapters 23–33, 87–88, 160, and 180)
  • Meikal: Garnak horn is the material that forces Meikal beyond routine Processing. His successful scabbard makes him the only known human in Gorgon capable of working the material and preserves the beast's innate Majesty. (Chapters 23–26 and 56)
  • Karlton: Karlton's Silver Restraint is reputed to let him hunt an adult Garnak alone. He later competes for the chance to fight the Eight-Horned factory leader but Jaehwan moves first. (Chapters 29 and 87)
  • Bizarre Factory: The factory manufactures, directs, repairs, and replaces Garnaks as biological weapons used to restrain threats in Chaos. The Eight-Horned Garniak is explicitly treated as a rare product rather than a naturally born singular monster. (Chapters 87–88)

Items

  • Garnak horns: SS-grade crafting material valued for exceptional durability and resistance to sinister energy. The horns can be refined into weapons, medicine, proof of a hunter's strength, or the scabbard for Solitary Unbowed. (Chapters 23–33, 49, and 56)
  • Garnak-horn scabbard: A collaborative work by Jaehwan and Meikal that stores Garnak's Majesty and initially withstands Jaehwan's Normal Stab. Its durability is almost exhausted after prolonged use against Abyss-level enemies. (Chapters 25–26, 29, 87, 160, and 180)
