Donnie

Donnie White is a civilian-born magic student living twenty-four years into the Arcana Calendar. Hoping to escape the intimidating reach of Lucien's physics, he chooses necromancy and genetics, only to become entangled with a remnant power of the World of Souls and the Congress's research into parallel universes. Biography

Choosing a field and surviving its hidden inheritance

Donnie begins as an anxious but capable student preparing for the advanced-magic entrance examination. He admires Lucien Evans while resenting how every textbook and discipline seems to bear his name. Rather than follow the expected path into microscopic physics, Donnie deliberately applies to Heidler for body structure and genetics, believing the field will suit his strengths and offer a less crowded future. He reads contracts carefully, completes the examination despite frightening accidents, and enters the college with Sammy and Karl. Their shared nightmares then expose a threat no examination prepared them for: an ancient black armor and monotonous World of Souls power summon the students through a sealed dream landscape. Donnie is frightened throughout, but repeatedly chooses investigation and cooperation over pretending the danger is not real. (Chapters 824–845)

Donnie becomes an official sorcerer before returning home for the new year, gaining the respect his working-class family hoped magic education would provide. A paid request to clear a haunted castle nearly kills him, but the black-white-gray power attached to his right hand destroys the evil spirit. Recognizing that the result is not his own spell, Donnie contacts Karl instead of concealing it, then travels toward help as the power begins controlling his body and drawing him to the Path of Immortality. Douglas extracts it at the Congress's inter-universe research institution, ending the immediate possession. The experience leaves Donnie alive and still a young sorcerer, but with a direct lesson that inherited power can be a parasite rather than an achievement. (Chapters 846–849)

Appearance and personality

Donnie is a young man who commonly wears a black top hat before college and later the robe and one-black-circle badge of an official sorcerer. He is studious, cautious with bargains, imaginative enough to suspect conspiracies, and easily frightened by supernatural danger. His courage is practical rather than fearless: he seeks evidence, warns companions, and asks for expert help when he recognizes that the power exceeds him. (Chapters 824–849)

Magic, abilities, and skills

Donnie receives broad preliminary training and later specializes in necromancy, body structure, and genetics. By Chapter 846 his badge marks him as a first-circle sorcerer, though the corpus does not name his standard first-circle spell models. For a time his right hand carries a World of Souls remnant able to suppress undead creatures and eliminate an evil spirit, but this is involuntary, drains vitality, and attempts to control him. Douglas removes it; it should not be treated as Donnie's permanent mastery. (Chapters 831–849)
