Sir Nallon

Sir Nallon is a quiet Shersdonian knight and the early favourite at Wistover's first Royal Joust. His persistence through concussion, equipment damage, and increasingly difficult opponents earns strong local support and a place in the final.

Biography

Enduring Wistover's Royal Joust

Nallon enters as the expected winner and demonstrates why by keeping his points advantage through repeated broken lances, even after Sir Nick aims high and leaves him concussed and briefly limp in the saddle. He accepts prompt treatment and chooses to continue despite an unstable condition, later unhorsing Sir Martin in one pass to reach the final. The crowd's support survives his foreign status because the visible risk and endurance turn a favourite on reputation into a competitor they have watched prove himself. (Chapters 616–644 and 658–659)

In the final against Sir Charles, Nallon replaces a damaged shield, uses a pain-dulling potion, and returns within the time limit after Pops makes an emergency repair to buckled armour. Behind on points, he correctly identifies that unhorsing Charles is his only path to victory and nearly succeeds, but Charles remains in the saddle and takes the championship. Nallon finishes as runner-up with prize money and a wine flask, then turns the loss into good humour and perceptive commentary on how Wistover uses prizes and public generosity to build loyalty. (Chapters 660–661)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no stable physical description of Nallon outside tournament armour. He is generally considered quiet, smiles at keepsakes more than prize totals, and jokes softly after the final. In competition he is exceptionally determined, continuing after concussion, chest pain, damaged equipment, and a pressured final pass. (Chapters 616, 643–644, and 660–661)

Magic, skills, and craft

The corpus does not establish personal magic for Nallon. His skills are mounted jousting, shield positioning, lance timing, point management, and tactical adaptation under tournament rules. He can deliberately preserve a lead through repeated clean breaks and later changes to an aggressive unhorsing attempt when points can no longer win the final. Medical treatment, a pain potion, and Pops's repair enable him to continue; they are external support rather than innate healing or crafting abilities. (Chapters 643–644 and 658–660)

  • Sir Charles: Nallon faces Charles in a closely fought final, nearly unhorsing him but finishing runner-up when Charles retains his seat and points lead. (Chapters 659–661)

  • Pops: Pops rapidly repairs Nallon's buckled armour, allowing him to return before the final's time limit expires. (Chapter 660)
