Elder Manif

Elder Manif is the Duskblade Sect representative who negotiates its permanent settlement in Wistover. He connects the sect's survival and education goals to the Duchy's need for mages, teachers, communications, and portal support.

Biography

The Duskblade Sect and Monster Incursions

Manif arrives seeking a permanent home for the Duskblade Sect after its wandering life and quickly realizes that Wistover offers more than refuge. He negotiates work for juniors and elders, embraces Dominic Wavemates's proposal for a city-like sect that trains acolytes in useful trades, and supports a school capable of bringing ordinary children toward Royal Paladin standards. He then helps plan buildings, desks, radios, and magical instruction while offering Dominic personal tutoring in return for mana revolvers. The arrangement gives the sect income and institutional purpose, while Wistover gains educators and a durable magical centre. (Chapters 344–379)

Refugees, Conspiracies, and Provincial Power

Manif later becomes a trusted operational and political adviser. He opens a dungeon portal when Dominic chooses mercy for a captive, investigates unexplained magical backlash without pretending certainty, confirms radio communications, and warns that destroying Dagos's experienced leadership would leave no one capable of governing it. His contingency planning even includes the possibility of Cygnia losing the war and the sect fleeing again, revealing that settlement has not erased the caution learned through displacement. By supporting portals and discreet hand signals, he helps Dominic act on that caution without paralyzing Wistover's response. (Chapters 495–568)

Appearance and personality

Manif is an older man of mixed bloodline; the corpus gives no more stable physical description. He is formal when representing the sect, eager when a plan benefits its future, and capable of dry jokes once trust develops. He distinguishes theory from evidence and accepts surprising decisions even when they unsettle him. (Chapters 344–349, 375, and 495–496)

Magic, skills, and craft

Manif is a level-thirty mage who expects age eventually to reduce his level but believes his mixed bloodline leaves decades to teach. He can conjure chairs rather than retrieve them from storage, compare another person's mana through direct pressure, open long-distance portals, and teach materia-gem principles. His portal use moves people and even a mechanical horse, but destinations and logistics must be prepared; his theories about unfamiliar magical phenomena remain explicitly uncertain.
