Baron Keith

Baron Keith is a former Cygnian general elevated to a new Wistover barony. Lacking inherited wealth, he approaches settlement as a practical reconstruction project and uses his military connections and family judgment to establish a viable estate.

Biography

Founding Wistover

Keith arrives willing to accept whichever abandoned manor Dominic Wavemates assigns him. Because his family is not wealthy, preserved furnishings and magitech matter to their ability to maintain noble appearances, but he accepts that the property will be damaged and politically difficult. He leaves domestic hiring to his capable wife, tours irrigation and building work, and reports progress with pride in the older labourers restoring the estate. When a relative's violent claim to matriarchal authority threatens an elderly uncle and a toddler, Keith seeks Dominic's help because he wants the abuse stopped without humiliating public punishment. He later uses former Army contacts to recruit people, converting military relationships into the workforce his new territory needs. (Chapters 261–298)

Heirs of Wistover and the World Dragon

Years later, Keith remains integrated into Wistover's circle of local barons. He helps receive visiting nobles, models comfort with regional customs that initially confuse them, and remains in good spirits with Baron William Robert after the visitors move to formal business. The brief appearance indicates that his improvised settlement has matured into an established local lordship. (Chapters 771–773)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no stable physical description of Keith. He is practical, self-aware about his family's finances, and frequently amused rather than defensive about the indignities of starting a noble house from damaged property. His handling of domestic conflict shows restraint: he wants vulnerable relatives protected but prefers a private solution when possible. (Chapters 261–263 and 295–298)

Magic, skills, and craft

Keith's confirmed expertise is military leadership and estate administration. He understands combat-magic levels well enough to question Dominic about them and has contacts among former Cygnian comrades, but the corpus does not name Keith's own spells, establish a personal mage rank, or narrate a progression.
