Tong Chai

Tong Chai is an Area 5 survivor, Archer, and later representative of the Assassination Guild's cooperation with Valhalla. His relationship with Seol Jihu develops from cautious Neutral Zone teamwork into reliable intelligence support in Eva.

Biography

Neutral Zone comrade and guild liaison

Tong earns a reward after the Tutorial and joins Hao Win's Neutral Zone team. He initially resists investing points in Seol without proof, then reverses himself after watching Seol clear a mission at extraordinary speed. During harder missions Tong alternates between archery and close-range dagger work, and he steps forward with Seol to rescue Hao Win. His willingness to reassess evidence turns a transactional alliance into genuine respect, and the group parts on friendly terms after completing the Neutral Zone. (Chapters 9–10, 14–17)

Years later, Tong visits Eva on behalf of the Assassination Guild after Seol offers its suppressed local branch responsibility for a district. Tong credits Seol with raising his own standing, while Seol remembers that the guild defended Valhalla against false reporting. Tong then mobilizes the guild's recruitment and intelligence network, traces people moving between cities, supports Eva's palace during the draft crisis, and helps publish reporting that accurately frames Valhalla's campaign against human collaborators. The corpus later says Seol has lost contact with some Neutral Zone acquaintances, but does not specify whether Tong is among them. (Chapters 133–134, 140, 143, 172, 221)

Appearance and personality

Tong is a thin, brown-skinned man who wears a white turban. He is blunt about risk and money, becomes angry when asked for an investment he considers unearned, and then commits more than requested once convinced. In later meetings he is jovial, grateful, and professionally discreet, treating truthful intelligence work as an obligation rather than a favor. (Chapters 14, 17, 133)

Abilities and class

Tong fights as an Archer and also uses a dagger for stealth attacks. In the Neutral Zone he snipes enemy archers, moves behind opponents, and cuts them down at close range while allies control their attention. His later information-gathering reach comes through the Assassination Guild's branches rather than an explicitly named personal skill, so the corpus does not establish how much of each investigation he performs himself. Relationships

• Seol Jihu: Tong tests Seol before investing in him, then becomes a trusted contact whose guild supports Valhalla with recruitment, intelligence, and reporting. (Chapters 14–17, 133–134, 140, 172)
• Hao Win: Hao leads Tong's Neutral Zone team and persuades him that supporting Seol will benefit the entire party. (Chapters 14–17)
