Mary Rhine

Mary Rhine is a Level 4 Priest who follows Erica Lawrence out of gratitude and repeatedly serves in rescue and battlefield medicine. The corpus gives little interiority beyond her loyalty, fear under extreme pressure, and professional recognition of what her healing can and cannot accomplish.

Biography

Rescue work and the limits of healing

Mary volunteers for the Delphinion laboratory rescue because she owes Erica a large debt. She heals recovered captives, prevents Seol and Teresa from being injured with a timely barrier, and physically stops Seol from interfering with an infected victim when touching the parasites could worsen the situation. Her actions combine compassion with triage discipline rather than treating every living patient as safely recoverable. (Chapters 42–44)

Mary later answers Haramark's emergency mobilization and is nearly killed by Nosferatus before Seol's attack diverts the danger. During the aftermath she uses Cure Colossal Wounds but recognizes that mutilated patients require Critical-grade healing beyond her capacity, directing them toward stronger care instead of overstating her spells. Years later, she is reportedly scouted by Valhalla and joins another rescue team, where she again moves first to treat an unconscious casualty. (Chapters 84, 90–92, and 248)

Appearance and personality

Mary is a female Priest who wears a white robe in battle and carries a crucifix. She is visibly fearful in the laboratory and valley crises, covering her mouth, chewing her nails, and panicking when plans fail. Despite that fear, she continues casting barriers and healing spells and can firmly restrain a distressed ally when medical judgment requires it. (Chapters 42–44 and 90–92)

Abilities and class

Mary is explicitly a Level 4 Priest. Her demonstrated divine spells include Cure Massive Wounds, Cure Colossal Wounds, healing magic, and protective barriers. These techniques stabilize many serious injuries, but she cannot perform the Critical-grade healing needed for the most catastrophic wounds and relies on higher-ranked specialists for those cases.
