Kahn

Kahn is a Level 5 Royal Guard and the leader of an expedition team destroyed in the Forest of Denial. He is already dead when the main cast finds him, so the corpus establishes his choices and capabilities only through aftermath and other characters' accounts.

Biography

The failed Forest of Denial expedition

Kahn refuses Samuel's proposal to share information about the Forest of Denial, but then secretly leads his own ten-person group into the same area. The expedition is annihilated by Lioners, and Kahn's mutilated corpse becomes the first clear warning that a team containing a High Ranker could not survive the forest's changed conditions. His death sobers Samuel and helps drive the later expedition's decision to retreat when the Lioner pack appears. (Chapters 26–27)

The Lioner leader takes Kahn's black halberd and uses it against the rescuers, making the dead Royal Guard's weapon part of the threat his failed expedition leaves behind. Reports of his loss deepen Haramark's shortage of High Rankers, and his remaining property is later divided among the survivors, with Hugo receiving the halberd. The corpus does not explain why Kahn reversed his refusal or whether greed, urgency, or another motive drove the secret expedition. (Chapters 27, 29–30, 33)

Appearance and personality

Kahn's corpse is badly decomposed and missing its lower body when found, so it does not provide a reliable living appearance. His refusal followed by a secret expedition suggests concealment, but the source does not provide his internal reasoning or enough direct behavior to support a broader personality assessment. (Chapter 26)

Abilities and class

Kahn is identified as a Level 5 Royal Guard and High Ranker, which makes his death alarming to other veterans. His signature equipment is a black halberd, but he never fights on page; the Lioner leader's later use of that weapon cannot be treated as a demonstration of Kahn's own technique. No named class skill or exact combat limitation is established. (Chapters 26–27, 29–30)

Relationships

  • Samuel: Kahn rejects Samuel's approach, then enters the forest independently; discovering his death forces Samuel to reassess the danger. (Chapters 26–27)
  • Teresa Hussey: Teresa treats the loss of Kahn's entire team as a serious blow when Haramark already needs every High Ranker available. (Chapter 30)

Items

Kahn carries an unnamed black halberd. A Lioner takes it after killing him, and Hugo later receives it when the recovered property is divided. (Chapters 27, 33)
