Ghionea Marcel
Ghionea Marcel is a Romanian Earthling, elite sniper, and member of Carpe Diem who becomes Valhalla's Der Freischütz. His reputation as the Archer of Steel comes from discipline rather than an automatic homing power: he trains thousands of shots almost every day and commits to a trajectory once it leaves the string. That resolve first makes him Seol Jihu's grateful recruit, then the archer whose single shot revives the Spirit Realm's World Tree, and finally the leader of Valhalla's first field team.
Biography
Captivity, debt, and Carpe Diem
Marcel is already known as a rising Haramark archer when Tarneras ambush and imprison him. He disappears for months with other captives, and after escaping returns determined to find the unknown person whose destruction of the nearby Tarnera nest made that escape possible. Lucrative organizations try to recruit him, but he rejects their offers because repaying that debt matters more than improving his position. When he learns that Seol was responsible, Marcel kneels and asks for a place in Carpe Diem so he can serve his benefactor directly. (Chapters 77 and 81)
Seol resists reducing recruitment to a personal debt and brings Jang Maldong into the decision. Marcel's request nevertheless reveals qualities Carpe Diem needs: he is straightforward, respectful, and eager to rebuild the skill lost during captivity. He insists on receiving Jang's full training rather than a gentler recovery program, only to be found crying beside a lake after experiencing its severity. The moment humanizes his severe manner without weakening the choice behind it. He remains, trains, and becomes an official member instead of treating gratitude as a single ceremonial gesture. (Chapters 81–82)
Arden Valley
The coalition's defense of Arden Valley gives Marcel his first chance to repay Carpe Diem under army conditions. Commanders reassign him from Seol's field party to the fortress wall because a trained sniper is more valuable there. He accepts the separation and serves the larger plan rather than insisting that loyalty means remaining physically near Seol. From the wall, he provides the long-range fire the defense requires while Carpe Diem's other members fight below. (Chapters 84–87)
The Army Commanders' appearance exposes the scale of the threat and Marcel's response to fear. When a panicked defender tries to betray Seol's position, Marcel cuts off the disclosure and fires at Undying Diligence despite knowing that his bolts cannot injure the commander. The attack is tactically futile but prevents the traitor from completing his sentence and rejects the bargain offered by the Parasites. Marcel survives the fortress war with his loyalty intact, establishing that repayment has matured into membership: he will defend the team even when neither success nor personal survival is likely. (Chapter 87)
A place in the growing team
After the war, Marcel settles into Carpe Diem's daily life. His formal, emotionally reserved manner produces awkward kindness, as when he brings Seol tofu after mistaking a hospital discharge for release from prison. He participates in later expeditions, meets Flone without the fear shown by several teammates, and accepts the move from Haramark to Eva. These decisions make him more than a hired sniper. The organization becomes the place through which he trains, works, and relates to others, even though he remains less sociable than its louder founders. (Chapters 94–124)
In Eva, Marcel arms himself the moment Seol requests help and joins the operation against the city's predatory organizations before receiving a full explanation. He later works as an assistant during Eun Yuri's Tutorial, guiding successful entrants while Seol handles the Neutral Zone as a whole. Both episodes depend on judgment rather than marksmanship alone: he must recognize when earned trust warrants immediate action and when a veteran should support new Earthlings without taking their test away from them. (Chapters 126–136)
The shot that revived a world
Marcel reaches Level 5 Grand Steel Sniper after Valhalla's Eva operations and joins the Spirit Realm expedition. Its decisive task demands exactly the discipline behind his title. A World Tree seed and the materials needed to revive it must pass through moving Nests and embattled Spirits into a tiny opening. Marcel has no ability to redirect an arrow once fired. He therefore studies speed, direction, target movement, and the shifting gaps until he is willing to make one committed shot. (Chapters 139 and 147)
The arrow threads the tentacles and reaches its destination because Marcel's prediction and release are exact, not because fate corrects the path afterward. His hyper-focused perception makes the flight seem nearly still, but also forces him to wait through the helpless interval after release. The successful revival changes the entire campaign: the World Tree restores the Spirit Realm, enables Little Chick's development, and prevents the expedition from collapsing against Twisted Kindness. Seol later credits Marcel publicly because the victory genuinely depends on that one specialized contribution. (Chapters 147–149 and 168)
Valhalla's senior sniper
Following the Spirit Realm, Marcel serves under Phi Sora in Team 1. He listens to her planning, trains in the volcanic zone, and helps the younger archers establish contact with the Federation. His willingness to work inside another member's command contrasts with the self-promoting behavior common among high-level Earthlings. He wants better technique and a useful team, not a title detached from responsibility. (Chapters 161–166)
As Grand Steel Sniper, Marcel helps expose the Temple of Luxuria conspiracy and blocks routes with ranged fire while teammates seize the bishop. He also stands with Valhalla during the confrontation with Sinyoung and the Imperial Oath campaign. When the expedition retreats, he carries the critically injured Eun Yuri away on Philip Muller's instruction rather than refusing withdrawal in the name of courage. He returns grieving Seol's apparent death, but keeps serving the group that Seol built. (Chapters 170–188)
Marika Larisa and the final campaign
Marcel's private stake in the Parasite war becomes explicit when Sung Shihyun reveals Marika Larisa, Marcel's former fiancée, among the converted succubi. Marcel refuses Sung's attempt to slander Seol and fires even after being physically overmatched; the retaliation leaves him at Sung's mercy until Vulgar Chastity intervenes to use Marika against him. Seeing the woman he loves stripped of her will does not make Marcel abandon Valhalla. Seol's return gives him the chance to survive that humiliation and pursue a rescue through victory rather than surrender. (Chapter 190)
Before the final offensive, Seol's Divine Wish supplies the contribution points for Marcel to advance to Level 6 Der Freischütz. Marcel asks to serve on the wing where Marika may be found, and Seol grants the request while warning him to value one certain shot over reckless attempts. The choice respects both personal loyalty and operational discipline. Marcel continues fighting for the coalition rather than turning the whole battle into a private hunt, trusting that the main force's victory is what can free those the Parasites transformed. (Chapters 194 and 197)
During the last advance on the Queen, Marcel remains among the allies buying Seol each successive opening. A blast tears away his legs, and he dies apologizing because he believes he can no longer help. His death is not permanent: after victory, the Seven Sins revive those killed in the final war in exchange for the returned chief divinity. The revival lets Marcel share the liberation festival and converts his unfinished responsibility toward Marika into a postwar future rather than another tragedy. (Chapters 200–203)
Team leader and family life
Seol also helps restore Marika after the war. She and Marcel marry and have a child, and later scenes show his stern focus redirected toward quietly tending to his family. This is not a complete withdrawal from Paradise. When Valhalla reorganizes for a new threat, Marcel leads Team 1 and commands the second expedition after the first team disappears. Kim Hannah regards him, Kazuki, and Oh Rahee as leaders capable of thriving anywhere, confirming that the former lone sniper has grown into someone trusted with other people's lives. (Chapters 203, 224, 242, 248, and 252)
His latest state joins the two obligations that once seemed mutually exclusive. Marcel remains Valhalla's Level 6 Der Freischütz and a field commander, but is also alive with Marika and their child. The ending therefore rewards neither debt nor revenge by itself. What endures is the discipline that let him repay help by becoming dependable enough to give it to others. (Chapters 224–252)
Appearance and personality
Marcel is a Romanian man with a reserved bearing that Seol compares to a white wolf on a snow field. He normally carries a bow or crossbow and maintains a formal posture even around teammates. Captivity leaves him needing physical retraining, but later descriptions and combat scenes present a conditioned High Ranker capable of rapid movement as well as long-range fire. (Chapters 81–87 and 170)
He is aloof rather than hostile. Marcel treats Jang and Seol with marked respect, initially answers younger members coldly, and is uncomfortable with casual social rituals. His rare smiles, disastrous attempt to give culturally appropriate tofu, and awkward welcome after Seol's return show that the distance is temperament, not contempt. He expresses belonging through preparation and action more readily than conversation. (Chapters 82, 96, 154, and 187)
Straightforward gratitude is the foundation of his moral outlook. Marcel refuses profitable recruitment while searching for his benefactor, trains beyond comfort, and will fire at an invincible enemy rather than help a betrayal succeed. That rigidity can expose him to manipulation, especially through Marika, but over time it is joined by better command judgment. The latest Marcel can pursue a missing expedition as a team leader rather than as a solitary avenger. (Chapters 77–87, 147, 190, and 248–252)
Abilities and class
Marcel progresses from the renowned Archer of Steel to Level 5 Grand Steel Sniper and finally Level 6 Der Freischütz. His core power system remains ranged physical technique supported by mana, specialized equipment, and system classes. The corpus does not provide a complete Status Window or enumerate the abilities granted by Der Freischütz, so his demonstrated marksmanship should not be assigned wholesale to the final promotion. (Chapters 77, 139, 175, and 194)
Steel marksmanship
Marcel's defining capability is the ability to calculate and execute an extremely precise shot. He fires thousands of arrows on most days, building a repeatable sense for release, speed, arc, target movement, and environmental interference. When the World Tree shot leaves his hand, his hyper-focus makes the flight appear slowed and lets him track every near miss. It does not grant control over the arrow; the text explicitly contrasts him with archers whose skills can redirect projectiles in flight. His success depends on making the correct prediction before release. (Chapter 147)
This produces exceptional accuracy under pressure but preserves meaningful limits. A moving barrier can still close after he fires, and once a projectile is airborne he must accept the result. His most important application therefore follows Seol's later advice: prepare for one sure hit rather than release many shots in panic. The World Tree feat is representative because it combines years of repetition, complete commitment, and a target that cannot be corrected after the choice is made. (Chapters 147 and 197)
Rapid fire and battlefield control
Marcel also uses a crossbow for rapid suppressive fire. At Arden Valley he launches repeated bolts at Undying Diligence, and during Valhalla operations he blocks corridors and warp-gate routes before targets can escape. His close movement is fast enough to interrupt a traitor before the man finishes speaking, but the corpus does not identify that dash as a named class skill. (Chapters 87, 126, and 170)
The same distinction applies to scale. Marcel can dominate ordinary lanes and threaten High Rankers through timing, but his bolts fail to harm a full Army Commander, and Sung Shihyun catches an arrow before closing the distance and overpowering him. Range and accuracy do not compensate automatically for a target whose physical or divine level exceeds the projectile's force. (Chapters 87, 170, and 190)
Rank development and command
Grand Steel Sniper is Marcel's Level 5 High Rank class, achieved after his Neutral Zone contribution fills the final promotion requirement. At Level 6 he becomes Der Freischütz through contribution points supplied by a Divine Wish. The corpus does not show a new named bullet, supernatural ammunition system, firing condition, or cooldown. Its safest demonstrated result is higher overall combat standing carried into the final war. (Chapters 136–139, 175, and 194–200)
His latest non-combat capability is field leadership. Valhalla entrusts him with Team 1 and with the second expedition against the later threat. The text does not detail a supernatural command aura; this authority rests on veteran judgment, reliability, and a sniper's ability to assess the whole field. It is a developed professional competence rather than an item-derived effect. (Chapters 248 and 252)

Relationships
- Seol Jihu: Seol unknowingly frees Marcel from the Tarneras, then accepts him into Carpe Diem without exploiting the debt. Marcel's gratitude becomes enduring loyalty, while Seol increasingly trusts him with independent objectives and command. (Chapters 77–82, 147–168, 190–203, and 248)
- Jang Maldong: Marcel actively seeks Jang's training and learns that willingness does not make it painless. Jang helps restore the technical foundation lost during captivity and places him in the same disciplined lineage as Valhalla's other senior fighters. (Chapter 82)
- Phi Sora: Phi commands Marcel in Team 1 and treats him as its senior ranged specialist. He accepts her plans, undergoes further training, and later inherits leadership of the team rather than competing with her while she holds it. (Chapters 161–175 and 248)
- Little Chick: Little Chick carries the Spirit Realm's revival materials with Marcel's arrow and helps him escape after the shot. Their combined success restores the World Tree; neither contribution would be sufficient alone. (Chapters 147–149)
- Marika Larisa: Marika is Marcel's fiancée before the Parasites convert her into a succubus. Her captivity gives him a personal objective in the final war; after her restoration they marry and raise a child. (Chapters 190, 203, 224, and 242)
