Dylan Edward

Dylan Edward is a Level 5 Arch Shooter and the early leader of Carpe Diem. A measured expedition leader and formidable marksman, he dies after being captured and infected by the Parasites, then returns when Seol Jihu resurrects him after the final war. (Chapters 25–32, 41–43, 45, 203–204)

Biography

Carpe Diem and the Forest of Denial

Appointed by Jang Maldong to lead Carpe Diem, Dylan evaluates Seol cautiously before joining Samuel’s expedition into the Forest of Denial. His precise shooting helps kill the commanding Medusa and protect the party, while his cool judgment allows him to take command after Samuel’s team is destroyed. The expedition and fortress defense make Dylan an early model for Seol’s understanding of leadership: responsibility continues through the safe return, not merely the completion of an objective. (Chapters 25–32, 111)

Capture and death

Dylan later joins a mission against the Parasites’ laboratory and is captured, dismembered, and infected. When a rescue team finds him, he recognizes that the infection is too advanced to reverse and asks Kazuki Ayase to kill him before he becomes a Parasite puppet. His composure lets him give Seol a deliberate farewell, but his death leaves Carpe Diem’s responsibilities incompletely transferred and forces Seol to grow into the gap. (Chapters 41–43, 45, 73, 77–80)

Resurrection

After the final war, Seol resurrects Dylan and restores his memories. Dylan resumes work in Paradise, reconnects with Ian Denzel, and again serves as an expedition leader. His later response to a missing veteran team remains cautious and analytical: he treats incomplete information as a reason to prepare for a strong enemy, not as grounds for claiming certainty. (Chapters 203–205, 248, 253)

Appearance and personality

Dylan is a tall, heavily built Black man whose stature is compared to a basketball player’s. His voice is deep and low, and he wears substantial armor despite being an Archer. He is calm, pragmatic, and protective of less-experienced members, but his restraint is not passivity; once a threat is identified, he makes decisions quickly and expects the team to follow them. (Chapters 25–30, 159, 230)

Abilities and class

As a Level 5 Arch Shooter, Dylan emphasizes combat power and guerrilla warfare over the investigation skills of the Pathfinder branch. He uses bows and crossbows with enough accuracy to pressure commanding monsters and snipe a Medusa while coordinating other Archers. The corpus establishes his High-Ranker status before his death, but it does not provide a later level change following resurrection. (Chapters 26–32, 41)

Relationships

  • Seol Jihu: Dylan gives Seol his first place in Carpe Diem and later entrusts him with his farewell; Seol eventually resurrects him. (Chapters 25–30, 42, 203–204)
  • Hugo Richard: They are close Carpe Diem teammates, and Dylan asks that Hugo be included in the laboratory mission. (Chapters 25–32, 41)
  • Jang Maldong: Jang Maldong appoints Dylan as Carpe Diem’s leader and continues honoring a promise made to him after his death. (Chapters 25, 55)
  • Ian Denzel: They share early expeditions and resume an easy partnership after both are resurrected. (Chapters 26–32, 189, 203–205)

Items

Dylan uses bows and crossbows and wears coat-style brigandine, but none of these are given a stable personal name in the supplied corpus. (Chapters 26–32)
