Sword Saint’s Ancestral Sword

The Sword Saint’s Ancestral Sword is Noboru Miyamoto’s inherited family blade and lifelong weapon. It predates the system, survived war and the Tutorial with him, and was later awakened with reward points into a Soulbound artifact carrying the spirits and will of his ancestors. History

Family inheritance and wartime survival

Before the system, the old Japanese sword hung on the Miyamoto family wall as an heirloom inherited from the era of the shoguns. Noboru’s family history and his grandfather’s stories tied the weapon to an ideal of honorable warriors, while Noboru’s daily kendo practice made swordsmanship the enduring discipline of his life. During the Second World War, a young Noboru carried the same poorly maintained, dulled heirloom through a winter retreat. When a starving bear attacked as spring rain arrived, he killed it with the blade. The memory of winter yielding to spring later became the experiential foundation for his Springtime Advent technique, although the weapon itself was not yet described as magical. (Chapter 344)

Awakening into a true artifact

Noboru continued to use the ancestral sword during the Tutorial, including against its Terracotta commander. He then spent reward points to awaken the old family blade, bringing its ancestral spirits and accumulated will to life. The result became a true artifact bound to his soul and a life companion rather than a replaceable piece of equipment. (Standalone Intermission 2: “Noboru Miyamoto”; Chapter 209)

Enduring Path focus

The blade remained central to the Sword Saint’s later Path. His class prevents him from receiving ordinary equipment statistics; instead, wielding his sword supplies a roughly equipment-cap-sized statistical benefit, leaving him far weaker without it. Later training also established a decisive limitation: the ancestral artifact cannot overcome a superior sword concept by material quality alone, because its cutting power still depends on the wielder and the Path expressed through it. The sword was still across Noboru’s lap during his extended preparation for B-grade. No new canonical name, rarity, or transformation is disclosed by that point, so its latest confirmed state remains the awakened ancestral weapon he continues to carry. (Chapter 1268)

Abilities and properties

• Ancestral awakening: Reward-point awakening brought the family blade’s ancestral spirits and will to life, changing a historical heirloom into a true artifact. (Chapter 209)
• Soulbound companionship: The sword is bound to Noboru’s soul and described as his life companion, making it personally integrated rather than freely interchangeable equipment. (Chapter 209)
• Class-stat interface: Because the Sword Saint gains no normal statistics from equipment, wielding the sword instead provides an approximately equipment-cap-equivalent statistical benefit. This makes separation from the sword a major weakness. (Chapter 653)
• Path conduit, not autonomous technique: The weapon carries Noboru’s sword intent and serves as the medium for his water, seasonal, and Transcendent sword techniques, but those techniques belong to the wielder’s Path rather than being independently activated enchantments of the blade. • Conceptual limit: Minaga’s effortless handling of the ancestral blade demonstrated that a powerful artifact does not guarantee a cut against someone whose sword concept and control are superior. The weapon’s performance remains inseparable from Noboru’s comprehension. (Chapter 705)

Ownership and custody
