Blackpoint Nanoblade

The Blackpoint Nanoblade, formally identified as the Blackpoint Nanoblade Katar, is a purpose-built stabbing weapon Arnold designed around Jake Thayne's close-range combat style.

History

A purpose-built nanoblade

Arnold presented Jake with the newest deployable Nanoblade iteration after adapting its proportions to Eternal Hunger and abandoning the earlier single-edged design for a reinforced, double-edged katar. He combined an ultra-thin composite blade, a void-touched tip, conductive coating, and affinity-neutral mana-storage cores into an Ancient-rarity weapon optimized for penetration. Arnold explicitly recognized Jake as its owner, and Jake accepted it before departing to test it against Earth's termite hives. (Chapter 606)

Field use and return to Arnold

Jake used the katar against the Hive King and Vesperia, carried it throughout Nevermore, and valued its penetration alongside Eternal Hunger. It remained sharp enough to damage formidable targets, although sufficiently resilient enemies and armor could still stop it. By Jake's return it had required repeated repairs, its Blackpoint Burst had fallen behind his own attacks, and Eternal Hunger had outgrown it. Jake returned the worn weapon to Arnold, who used it as the base for a full reconstruction rather than merely discarding its Records. (Chapters 612–622, 671, 887, and 914)

Transformation into the Voidblade Katar

Arnold completed the rebuilt weapon before Chapter 926 and returned it to Jake as the Legendary Voidblade Katar. He retained the old katar's valuable materials and Nevermore Records, infused the composite blade with nascent void energy, and stabilized it for existence in the material plane and spatial storage. The result can cut nearly all physical material, convert infused mana into void energy, and nullify other energy while charged; it is still a prototype that Arnold expects Jake to field-test and return if it breaks. Abilities and properties

• The nanoblade's ultra-thin composite-alloy edge can cut most ordinary materials with little effort. Without mana infusion, however, it has little or no effectiveness against magical wards and defenses. (Chapter 606)
• Its black tip was momentarily exposed to concepts related to the void. The tip remains virtually indestructible and does not lose sharpness while the rest of the blade retains integrity, but this contact does not give the katar general void powers. (Chapter 606)
• The void-touched tip partly nullifies matter and incoming force, improving penetration and making blocks with the tip safer for the wielder. The surrounding katar remains an offense-focused construction and is less durable than the tip, so ordinary defensive use can still damage it. (Chapter 606)
• An improved conductive coating accepts many kinds of mana, including Jake's arcane mana. The handle's energy cores can store mana of any affinity, and Blackpoint Burst releases the stored charge through the tip, ideally after the blade has entered a target so the explosion occurs internally. (Chapter 606)
• Only the tip safely releases Blackpoint Burst because it can endure the pressure. The enchantment has a wind-up and became too weak relative to Jake's later attacks to remain consistently worthwhile by the end of Nevermore. (Chapters 606 and 914)
• The weapon successfully pierced the Hive King when Jake braced for a direct collision and later cut the Demon Warden's crystals, but it did not fully penetrate Vesperia's armor or Carmen's body without Jake creating a stronger opening. Its penetrative specialization is therefore powerful rather than absolute. (Chapters 614, 622, 671, and 887)
• The katar required a humanoid wielder of at least level 200. It was not soulbound, and Arnold could take it back for inspection and prospective material reuse. (Chapters 606 and 914)
• After reconstruction, the Voidblade Katar absorbs infused mana through its handle and converts it into nascent void energy, most efficiently from Jake's arcane affinity. That charge lets it interact with mana-based entities and nullify other incoming energy; without sufficient charge, the blade cannot damage or even interact with purely mana-based targets. • Forced Spatial Stabilization lets the void-infused prototype remain in the material plane and enter spatial storage. Arnold warns that its handle contains a high-level mythical catalyst, so Jake must return the weapon or its fragments if it breaks or is discarded. (Chapter 926)
