Peter
Peter is the youngest son of Arthur, leader of the United Cities Alliance. He accompanies Jake Thayne and Carmen as a cheerful guide while covertly using their presence to investigate Paradise.
Biography
From Church infiltrator to Alliance scout
Peter enters the Holy Church to build influence for his father and investigate whether the faction can coexist with Earth’s existing cultures. His light affinity makes him a paladin prospect, and he gains an elite party, but the ritual sacrifice of a woman he cared about breaks his faith and stalls his progression. The Unusual Unions event gives him a new direction: he renounces his divine blessing, resumes leveling, and returns to covert work for the United Cities Alliance. When he joins Jake and Carmen, he conceals both Arthur’s identity and his real assignment while genuinely helping them navigate Alliance cities. (Chapters 461–462; Intermission 8/10, “Arthur”)
In Paradise, Peter uses the access implied by traveling with Jake to record hidden formations, influential visitors, and compromising activity. He becomes invisible through light refraction and an epic stealth skill, collects evidence meant to weaken Paradise’s independence, and disappears before the city can confront him. Jake recognizes the deception but judges that Peter did not act against him or Carmen and keeps Peter’s map. Peter is alive when he departs; the supplied corpus does not show his later location or the final outcome of his intelligence operation. (Chapters 465–466, 469–471)
Appearance and personality
Peter is a young human man, probably in his early twenties, initially seen in silver armor. He is cheerful, talkative, and outwardly guileless enough to seem inexperienced. That presentation conceals patience and professional deceit, but his private thoughts show genuine guilt about misleading Jake and respect for some of the people he observes. His rejection of the Church is rooted in grief and concern for Earth’s identity rather than simple factional obedience.
Path, class, and abilities
- Light-affinity warrior: Peter’s strong light affinity once put him on a paladin track. He remains a warrior who can use rapid, short-range movement, though his sustained travel speed lags behind Jake and Carmen.
- Stealth: He refracts light to become invisible and activates an epic-rarity stealth skill that suppresses footsteps, aura, and other traces. The combination supports infiltration rather than direct confrontation.
- Reconnaissance tools: Peter records surroundings with a crystal, assembles maps, and gathers political intelligence. These tools supplement his skills but do not make him undetectable to Jake’s perception or Sylphie’s surveillance.
- Progression and limits: His growth stops when his faith collapses and resumes after he renounces the Church blessing during Unusual Unions. He has helped kill a Prima but does not demonstrate a full battle kit in this arc, and his exact latest level is not stated.
Relationships
- Jake Thayne: Peter exploits Jake’s reputation as cover but also comes to see him as more reasonable than Alliance intelligence suggested. Jake detects the scheme, warns Paradise afterward, and does not treat Peter as an enemy.
- Carmen: Peter guides Carmen’s search for her family and tries to comfort her, while keeping his own mission separate from her personal crisis.
- The Holy Church: Peter’s infiltration becomes a genuine period of belonging before the sacrifice of his party member destroys his faith and convinces him that the Church threatens Earth’s autonomy.
