Nella

Nella is a well-connected scalekin student at the Order Academy. She leads a study group that presents itself as friendship while using Meira for books, credits, materials, and labor.

Biography

Exploiting Meira and facing judgment

Nella is born at D-grade to two B-grade parents and treats that background as permission to dominate her peers. As leader of Meira’s first apparent friend group, she pressures the elf to fetch restricted books, surrender materials, obtain academy credits, and compensate the group through her sponsor. Her condescension worsens after learning Meira is enslaved. Izil eventually explains the pattern to Jake Thayne, who confronts Nella and Utmal and forces Meira to recognize that their demands were exploitation rather than friendship. (Chapters 458, 492, 505, 512–513)

When Utmal attacks, Jake kills her and gives Meira the choice of what should happen to Nella. Nella abandons her former confidence and pleads to restart the friendship, but Meira turns her over to the Order rather than killing her personally. Viridia arranges Nella’s death and fabricates a mission in which she supposedly dies honorably, preventing retaliation against Meira while compensating Nella’s family. The confrontation becomes a lasting step in Meira learning to set boundaries and act for herself. (Chapters 514–515, 519)

Appearance and personality

Nella is a female scalekin; the story does not supply stable colors, facial features, or clothing. She initially appears smug, scornful, and certain her status protects her. She can restrain open quarrels when they inconvenience her, but uses the language of friendship to secure benefits. Once exposed to consequences she becomes horrified and desperate, revealing that her confidence depended heavily on inherited protection.

Path, class, and abilities

• High-grade birth: Nella is born at D-grade because of her lineage and is expected to reach C-grade naturally upon maturity and an Evolution Awakening. That growth still requires roughly half a century and does not substitute for a carefully developed foundation.
• Academy study: She studies physiology, energy circulation, and related Order subjects, but often makes Meira obtain superior books and copy work for her. No named class, profession, or combat skill is demonstrated.
• Status as leverage: Her two B-grade parents and family connections are her most consequential advantage. Those connections intimidate Meira but cannot protect Nella once the Order’s senior leadership supports Jake.
• Limits and latest state: Nella never demonstrates fighting power during the confrontation. She is incapacitated by an enforcer and subsequently killed, ending any further progression.

Relationships

• Meira: Nella calls Meira a friend while exploiting her deference and slave status. Meira’s choice to surrender Nella for judgment, rather than obey or kill her, marks a turning point in Meira’s independence.
• Jake Thayne: Jake identifies Nella’s conduct as abuse, exposes his superior backing, and makes sure Meira controls the final decision.
