Maria

Maria is an independent fire archer whose combat and crafting Paths both center on flame.

Biography

Return from Nevermore and the Prima Guardian

Maria first traveled with Jacob’s group while openly declining leadership and keeping her own agenda under Gwyndyr’s blessing. She later separated completely from the Holy Church, judging its fanaticism, restrictions, and planned war against the Risen incompatible with her priorities. Hunting and working as a mercenary let her reach C-grade, upgrade her blessing, and eventually join a Nevermore party aligned with the Crimson Flame Pantheon without surrendering her independence. (Chapters 126, 570, 637, 692, 878)

Maria returned to Earth as a ranged specialist against the Prima Guardian, preparing firebomb arrows and fighting from outside the creature’s reach. Its gel suppressed fire, while acid rain, poison, and a curse punished her limited defenses. She escaped one lethal exchange by turning into a ball of flame, but the technique produced severe backlash and forced her withdrawal. After recovering, she continued taking paid work alongside Caleb and the Court rather than becoming a permanent subordinate. (Chapters 930–945)

Appearance and personality

After a rushed hunt, Maria appears with messy hair and worn leather armor, but the corpus does not establish consistent hair or eye color. She is frank, profane, pragmatic, and quick to mock pretension. Her departure from the Holy Church reflects a strong need for personal autonomy, while her willingness to accept contracts and cooperate against major threats shows that independence does not prevent reliable professional teamwork. (Chapters 570, 637, 1056)

Path, class, and abilities

Maria fights with a bow and fire-aligned mana. Early signature attacks include a giant flame bow and a phoenix-shaped arrow, while her body can repair injury through flame. Her ranged pressure is strongest when targets remain vulnerable to heat; the Prima Guardian’s fire-nullifying gel sharply reduced that advantage and exposed her to poison, curses, and environmental damage. Her flame-transformation can save her from immediate danger but carries debilitating backlash. (Chapters 157, 340, 930–945)

Her profession as a bowyer complements her combat Path. She created Jake’s Embered Bow and later discussed how the Obsidian Blazebow conducted fire exceptionally well while remaining physically fragile. That combination shows her specialty: integrating fire into ranged weapons, not producing universally durable bows. Her latest confirmed state remains that of a capable C-grade mercenary and crafter operating through her faction. (Chapters 340, 1057, 1207)

Relationships

  • Jacob initially provided Maria’s group with direction, but she never wanted his authority and ultimately rejected the Holy Church surrounding him.
  • Jake Thayne is a fellow archer and a customer for her bowcraft. Their exchanges are practical and occasionally teasing rather than deeply subordinate.
  • Caleb Thayne becomes a compatible mercenary ally after Nevermore, with Maria joining contracted operations rather than his permanent organization.
