Jasper

Biography

From warpsnatcher to family

Jake Thayne first encountered Jasper as the sole known creature in a Hunting Ground: a passive Shimmerfur Warpsnatcher that escaped into personal subspace and stole rewards rather than fighting. Their wary exchanges became reciprocal care when Jasper sheltered an injured Jake for roughly two weeks and brought him fruit. Jake later brought the creature home, where Artemis proposed the name “Jasper”; Jasper accepted both the name and a place among people he eventually called family. (Chapters 1107, 1120–1122, 1157)

After a long preparation for evolution, Jasper returned with severe bodily and soul injuries from escaping with a Supreme Jewel of Drifting Planes. Closing the overdrawn escape skill risked permanent soul damage, while refusing to abandon the treasure left immediate evolution as the viable recovery. Jake conducted a Primeval Origin ritual using Jasper's hoard and the jewel, but Jasper chose the resulting Path and evolved into a B-grade Shimmershroud Planeswarper. He later cleared the Seeker's trial, received the deity's Divine Blessing, and departed to explore with the Seeker while retaining Jake as family. (Chapters 1178–1181, 1189–1191, 1274)

Appearance and personality

Jasper is a small, four-legged creature no taller than Jake's knees, with blue-white soft fur, glimmering porcupine-like back spikes, a catlike face, a limber body, and large eyes. He speaks in short, simplified phrases. Timid around overwhelming auras and uninterested in direct violence, he is nevertheless clever, affectionate, stubbornly possessive of treasure, and meticulous about sorting his hoard.

Path, class, and abilities

As a Warpsnatcher, Jasper can enter and leave a personal subspace, cross immense distances, infiltrate protected places, and escape with stolen valuables. His B-grade Planeswarper evolution draws Records and value from his hoard without requiring him to consume every treasure. The Seeker's blessing adds a knowledge cube containing methods for safecracking, barrier breaking, infiltration, and stabilizing treasure; Jasper must feed the cube a small amount of energy to anchor it before it disappears. His spatial workings remain partly mysterious, and the Malefic Viper explicitly does not treat them as proof that Jasper is a master of space magic. Extreme escapes can also overdraw the skill badly enough to damage body and soul.
