Iskar
Iskar is the last Monarch of Blood from Yalsten, an ancient vampire whose soul survives within Sanguine's Blood Legacy as its steward and adviser to the Sword Saint.
Biography
Yalsten's fall and stewardship of the Blood Legacy
Entrusted with Sanguine's Legacy as Yalsten collapses under the Holy Church and the Bloodless Night, Iskar seals his world and sacrifices his own kin to keep the artifact hidden. During the Treasure Hunt he invokes Color of Night, subjects the survivors to the Legacy's judgment, and fights Jake Thayne and the Sword Saint before Yalsten finally ends. His soul remains attached to the artifact rather than disappearing with his body. He subsequently advises the Sword Saint, helps the Noboru clan's vampires, manifests through blood when Earth is threatened, and explains the Legacy to a True Ancestor. Though he works to strengthen his soul and gain more autonomy, his latest state remains that of a resident steward who chooses to keep the artifact in the new universe. Appearance and personality
Iskar appears as a male vampire and, after his bodily death, as an illusory or blood-condensed figure. In Yalsten he carries the grave authority of a monarch; later he is restrained, knowledgeable, and often advisory. His defining trait is duty: he accepts horrific costs to protect the Legacy, yet can reconsider its best use and respect the Sword Saint's refusal to become a vampire. Path, class, and abilities
As the Monarch of Blood, Iskar commands blood magic, curse magic, clones, and the functions of Sanguine's Legacy. His original high-grade body dies with Yalsten; later manifestations are constrained by his resident-soul state and by the Sword Saint's connection to the artifact. (Chapters 338–359 and 1084)
- Color of Night and blood judgment: Iskar turns the moon sanguine, draws blood from living and undead targets across the battlefield, kills or expels most weaker participants, and imposes a judgment that allows only those deemed worthy to stand. - Blood and curse combat: He creates blood clones, barriers, crushing blood pressure, black curse tendrils, and explosive decoys, and can drain blood and vital energy through a bite. - Sword Saint: Iskar begins bound to the artifact the Sword Saint wins and becomes his adviser and eventual friend. He urges opportunities that may help Miyamoto, supports his clan's vampires, and ultimately chooses to keep the Legacy with him despite meeting a True Ancestor.
- Jake Thayne: Jake helps defeat Iskar's final bodily manifestation. Their connection afterward is indirect through the Blood Legacy and the Sword Saint rather than a continuing personal feud.
- Katherine: The Nalkar True Ancestor recognizes Iskar's custodial duty and asks him to explain the Legacy. Their meeting validates his mission while leaving him free to keep serving the new universe.
