Duskleaf is the Malefic Viper’s divine disciple and one of the Order’s senior alchemists, initially a reluctant examiner of Jake and later the teacher and patron who helps Meira build an independent Path.

Biography

From reluctant examiner to teacher

The Viper compels Duskleaf to help train Jake during the short, time-dilated period after the Tutorial. Duskleaf expects a fighter who treats alchemy as an auxiliary source of combat skills, an attitude he despises. Jake’s willingness to exhaust himself over cauldron trials and his genuine excitement at solving alchemical problems overturn that judgment. Duskleaf consequently shifts from bored resistance to quiet approval, giving Jake exacting guidance without trying to replace his personal experimentation with rote answers. (Chapters 116–121)

Duskleaf later assumes responsibility for Meira’s education and eventually grants her his True Blessing. His instruction addresses more than alchemy: recognizing that her protected leveling has left her unprepared for real danger, he creates combat exercises with plant soldiers and homunculus teammates, heals failed attempts, and encourages her to try again without treating panic as shameful. The result is a transformed Meira who reaches C-grade, evolves as a high elf, and becomes Duskleaf’s Chosen while retaining her connection to Jake’s household. (Chapters 573–600 and 893–894)

Appearance and personality

Duskleaf appears as a plump, elderly man who looks unwashed, with sharp eyes and a faint smell of soil. He is terse, easily exasperated by the Viper’s theatrics, and almost wholly devoted to alchemy. That severity conceals a patient teacher: once he recognizes sincere effort, he protects a student’s freedom to learn and provides practical support rather than empty reassurance. Path, class, and abilities

Duskleaf attained godhood through extreme dedication to alchemy while giving comparatively little attention to his combat class. The corpus shows the breadth of that mastery through teaching and controlled life-related constructs rather than a full divine battle.

Alchemy, plants, and constructed life

He can evaluate advanced brewing, guide mana control, and design exercises around polluted wounds and healing interactions. For Meira’s training, Duskleaf creates or controls plant soldiers and humanoid homunculi, ends the exercise by withering all hostile constructs at once, and restores a lethal chest wound with a descending green light. These effects show command over plant, life, and alchemical concepts, but the corpus does not specify their range, resource cost, or performance against another god. (Chapters 117–121 and 893)
