Defense of the den
The Den Mother was identified as the objective of a hidden dungeon before Jake Thayne reached her cavern. Three competing Alpha Venomfang Badgers converged when she called, turning her lair into a many-sided fight. Jake prepared a hemotoxin specifically to interfere with her recovery, resisted her poisonous gas, and fought from range while the Alphas occupied her. When she stopped to regenerate, she could still sense nearby life and mana, but Jake's low-mana arrow escaped that detection and destroyed her brain before she could restore its function. Appearance and personality
The Den Mother is slightly larger than the Alpha badgers, with a smooth, fine coat patterned by intricate white lines. Her initial beauty and composed, commanding presence contrast with the spines and purple mist revealed later in battle. She is territorial, alert, and willing to use rival Alphas as defenders when her den is invaded.
Path, class, and abilities
As a Tutorial Beast Lord, the Den Mother combines speed, strength, a durable hide, a protective barrier, corrosive green breath, and a damaging sonic screech. She can remain motionless to heal wounds and weaken poison, then escalate by producing purple mist and firing spines. Her awareness reaches living beings and significant mana nearby, but it is not infallible: Jake's restrained-mana shot bypasses it. Hemotoxin slows her recovery, Jake's poison resistance limits her area denial, and catastrophic brain damage proves fatal before regeneration can compensate.
