Yubaim Dolan
Yubaim Dolan is Danyum’s Satyr commander-in-chief and father of Aranju Dolan. He leads the army at Dilpa Gorge, preserves much of it through defeat, and is then killed by regent Babica during the political collapse of Danyum.
Biography
Defeat, retreat, and betrayal
Yubaim gathers Danyum’s aristocratic generals under the pressure of Black Scale’s advance and tries to coordinate infantry, cavalry, and cannons through Dilpa Gorge. When Vasen’s deployment exposes the army, Yubaim hesitates between saving the front and preserving the rest, then chooses action and eventually retreats. Although inexperienced with modern cannon tactics, he appeals effectively to his soldiers and brings roughly fifteen thousand back to Deimerit, far more than Black Scale expects. That surviving military authority could have stabilized the capital, but Yubaim obediently follows orders issued under the new king’s name, dividing his troops and reviewing merits while Babica dismantles his command. The regent kills him, removing the last force capable of contesting the palace and prompting Aranju’s rapid seizure of power and surrender. (Chapters 118–123)
Appearance and personality
Yubaim is a muscular Satyr with wiry goat-like hair on his lower body, a goat beard, bulky armor, and a deep voice. By Satyr standards he is considered handsome. (Chapter 118)
He is forceful but not inflexible, capable of motivating troops and accepting retreat when the battle is lost. His fatal weakness is political obedience after returning to the capital. (Chapters 119–123)
Powers and abilities
Yubaim commands large combined forces and can preserve morale after a severe defeat. He has no demonstrated Miracle or apostolic power. His unfamiliarity with modern artillery tactics limits him against Vasen, and Crampus declines to use Divine Control through him. (Chapters 118–121)
