Manun
Manun is the ancient Drake first raised by Beauer and later tamed by Lakrak, becoming a mount, protector, and enduring guardian of Black Scale’s royal line.
Biography
From Beauer’s weapon to Black Scale’s guardian
Manun hatches under Beauer’s care and protects the chief while he violently expels members of the Blue Skin Tribe. When Lakrak defeats Beauer, he also subdues the five-meter Drake and replaces fear with a more durable bond built on discipline, food, and shared danger. Manun carries water through the wasteland, allows Lakrak’s companions to ride, and helps crush the Frogmen holding Lizardman families hostage. Black Scale’s later account of domestication uses him as its central example: the tribe gives food and care, and Manun returns strength. (Chapters 6–22)
Manun continues growing for more than a century until the palace must be rebuilt around his yard. His escape becomes a political problem because citizens love the guardian Dragon but could turn against him if he harms civilians; young Kyle Lak Orazen helps devise a solution that brings him back without killing him. Far later, Manun still serves Lakrak in the Pantheon and understands his intent instantly, pulling back his neck to launch the new Constellation of Judgment toward Bifnen’s Sky Castle. (Chapters 79–87 and 282–316)
Appearance and personality
Manun is a four-legged Drake, about five meters long when young, six meters during Black Scale’s early wars, and approximately twenty-five meters long at around 150 years old. He is vicious, food-motivated, and prone to chewing whatever reaches his mouth, but he remembers physical correction and becomes calm around Lakrak. The story says Drakes may not die of old age, with Manun’s longevity offered as evidence rather than a proven universal rule. (Chapters 6–22 and 79–83)
Powers and abilities
His abilities are principally physical: great size, speed, trampling force, a powerful bite, and the endurance to carry riders and supplies. As a young Drake he can defeat a saber-toothed tiger, protect Beauer from attackers, and rout Frogmen; in the Pantheon he can move through divine space and launch Lakrak with precisely timed force. He has no named breath spell or personal Domain in the supplied corpus, and his obedience depends on familiarity, training, and food rather than magical compulsion. (Chapters 6–22, 79–83, and 282–316)
