Hekab

Hekab is a giant black beetle created by Choi Sung-Woon. Hekab serves as the Pantheon’s temporary gatekeeper, but also manifests as a heavy battlefield guardian whose horns and fire-resistant body can contend with creatures on the scale of Dragons.

Biography

Gatekeeper and guardian

Hekab first opens the Pantheon’s enormous iron door for Lakrak and Shune, physically hauling its chain before returning to guard the threshold. During the fourth-continent campaign, Night Sky sends Hekab to help capture Great Ashurada without destroying the Dragon’s body. Hekab flips the Dragon with its horns, interrupts magical preparation, and continues threatening it even after repeated impacts, while Gordius carries out the possession plan. A direct hit eventually snaps a front leg and forces organs through the wound, demonstrating the cost of holding a stronger enemy in place. Hekab survives to resume afterlife duties and later pulls the carriage carrying Ramin’s group toward the Pantheon. (Chapters 144–199)

Appearance and personality

Hekab is a black beetle the size of a house, with huge horns and powerful front legs. Shune encounters an even more monumental impression at the gate, where Hekab works against a door proportioned for divine creations. (Chapters 144–170)

Hekab is dutiful and ceremonially proud, announcing their name and aid in Night Sky’s service. The creation treats gatekeeping and carriage work as honors rather than menial labor. (Chapters 168–199)

Powers and abilities

Hekab possesses tremendous lifting, charging, and throwing strength, enough to overturn Great Ashurada and use a boulder as a projectile. Their physiology resists flame better than Dagon’s. Hekab is not invulnerable: Ashurada breaks a leg with a direct attack, and Night Sky chooses Hekab partly because the stronger Sratis would cost more Faith to deploy. (Chapters 168–174)

Relationships

• Choi Sung-Woon: Night Sky creates and deploys Hekab for both Pantheon service and the Ashurada capture plan.
