Kaan Swacc
Kaan Swacc is a veteran of the Xyrt Brigade assigned to Earth as a Special Investigator during the Corrupted Invader scenario. The Swacc name denotes his institutional adoption into the family rather than a demonstrated blood relationship to its other members. He uses harmonized pyramids, tailored counterimages, and a Nether Suppression Cell to test and break exceptional fighters until Randidly Ghosthound kills him. (Chapters 1247, 1330–1355, and 1409)
Biography
The Special Investigator's trap
Kaan first appears as the veteran assigned to Randidly's command, but the Swacc family's intervention turns him into the Special Investigator overseeing Earth's antique Xyrt Brigade test. The office gives him grounds to attack any exemplary element that draws his attention, and he arrives stronger than Lady Iellaya while convinced Randidly serves a Nether power. He imposes a gag order on Village Spirits, uses Lyra Silver to carry a constrained warning, and prepares an attack meant to lure Randidly out and shatter the images on which Earth's defense depends. (Chapters 1247, 1330, and 1348–1355)
Duel with Randidly and Neveah
Randidly confronts Kaan with Neveah, and Kaan isolates his target in a Nether Suppression Cell while tuning pyramids to counter each image he observes. Neveah helps break the first isolation, so Kaan turns his dispersed Fate into an amber pyramid and bombards her with profound loneliness, hoping her pain will break Randidly. The strategy initially succeeds: his harmonies stop momentum, empower his body, and suppress all three of Randidly's principal images. It also gives Randidly the pressure needed to connect those images, while Kaan's certainty prevents him from retreating when he first recognizes the risk. (Chapters 1355–1362 and 1406–1409)
Death and memory reconstruction
Randidly finally uses the Lantern of Harsh Truths to force Kaan to recognize that his Nether-spy premise is false. The revelation disrupts the investigator's pyramids long enough for Acri to pierce the bridge of his nose, killing him in Chapter 1409. Later fights involving Kaan are Dreamcatcher reconstructions of the dead investigator, used by Randidly to refine the Grim Chimera and test responses to image suppression. Those memory versions can deviate from the original encounter, but they do not establish Kaan's survival, resurrection, or replacement by a copied person. (Chapters 1409, 1485–1487, and 1496)
Appearance and personality
Kaan is a hairless humanoid with sharp, almost elven features, dull bronze metallic skin, and reflective silver eyes. His voice has an unusual musicality, each phrase seeming ready to become song, while the reflected light of his body makes him naturally eye-catching. Severe wounds expose honey-like blood because he has dispersed his Fate through his physical substance. (Chapters 1355 and 1406–1408)
He is controlled, observant, proud, and cruelly committed to the Xyrt Brigade's assumptions. Kaan adapts quickly enough to tune counters during battle and can acknowledge tactical incompetence, but his honor and desire for vindication make retreat feel worse than death. His certainty that Randidly is a spy permits him to rationalize attacks on Neveah; when that certainty collapses, the brief confusion reveals how completely his identity depends on the institution's interpretation of threats. (Chapters 1355, 1406, and 1408–1409)
Abilities and progression
Kaan commands six floating pyramidal harmonies and a seventh manifestation formed from his Fate. Each harmony can be tuned to a target: some strengthen his physical form with power, indomitability, flexibility, or circulation, while others express counterimages such as certainty against struggle, hopelessness against obsession, or age against growth. He can smash harmonies together to disperse momentum, launch them as independent attacks, and adjust the counterimage after observing a foe. His control lets him suppress several distinct images simultaneously, making straightforward specialization dangerous against him. (Chapters 1406–1409)
His Nether Suppression Cell isolates a target in a dark space, removes access to ordinary surroundings, and is regarded within the Xyrt Brigade as an absolute one-target restraint unless an outsider intervenes. Kaan also disperses his Fate through his metallic body as blood, allowing it to fuel images and later congeal into an amber pyramid that attacks with concentrated loneliness. He can regenerate shattered metallic flesh by expending energy, but the replacement is degraded, and every active harmony increases his mental cost. Running all six plus the Fate sharply shortens his endurance; serious wounds, divided focus, multi-image cooperation, Nether that remains connected across the Cell, and a truth that invalidates his premise all provide counters. (Chapters 1355, 1406–1409)
Relationships
- Randidly Ghosthound: Target and killer. Kaan's attempt to tune away every aspect of Randidly's power instead teaches Randidly how his three images can support one another.
- Neveah: Randidly's ally and Kaan's secondary target. Her intervention breaks his first isolation, after which he weaponizes loneliness against her mind.
- Lyra Silver: A Village Spirit constrained by his orders who nevertheless embeds warnings for Randidly in the message she is made to deliver.
- Ileot Swacc: An earlier Swacc affiliate whose death helps motivate the family's scrutiny of Randidly; the shared institutional surname does not prove a blood relationship.
- Lady Iellaya: The commander who warns Randidly of Kaan's assignment and helps establish the threat represented by his Xyrt Brigade standing.
