Miranda

Miranda is the Council of New Order's foreign-relations director during its takeover of Earth. Lacking the raw power of other council leaders, she earns authority through preparation, negotiation, and an ability to turn the Midnight Inn's interplanetary market into a source of supplies and possible investment. (Chapters 158–165)

Biography

A negotiator for the new regime

Miranda participates in the confrontation with Earth's former ruling families and presses the gathered leaders to stop posturing and address the transition of power. Exhausted by the revolution, she nevertheless approaches the Innkeeper as the council's formal representative. She first asks him to bar fugitives and criminals, accepts his refusal to import Earth's politics into the Inn, then pivots to a detailed proposal for an expo that could attract off-world sponsors without inviting them directly onto Earth. (Chapters 158–165)

Her meeting turns the Inn into both neutral marketplace and strategic shield. Miranda organizes a massive purchase of Botlam Dew, cleansing towels, and travel kits for the council, and her ingenuity helps overcome objections that she brings no military force to the governing coalition. The work has a visible personal cost—pale skin, disordered hair, and deepening eye bags—but she continues managing council security and later permits Lex's disguised identity to access a protected computer, illustrating how much the revolution depends on her judgment. (Chapters 165, 168, 578)

Appearance and personality

Miranda presents herself with deliberate posture and professional formality, though sustained crisis leaves her exhausted, pale, frizzy-haired, and shadowed beneath the eyes. She is impatient with political theater, organized enough to arrive with detailed terms, and pragmatic enough to change requests after a firm refusal. Brandon's flirting makes her blush, revealing a private embarrassment beneath an otherwise controlled public manner. (Chapters 158–159, 165, 578)

Abilities and cultivation

No reliable cultivation realm or signature combat technique is established for Miranda. Her demonstrated power is institutional and diplomatic: she manages foreign relations, evaluates alien investment, specifies acceptable sponsorship, coordinates bulk purchases, and adapts negotiations without losing the larger goal. These skills win her a place among stronger council members, but they do not protect her from exhaustion or give the council jurisdiction inside the Inn. (Chapters 158, 165, 168)

Relationships

  • Lex Williams: Miranda negotiates with Lex's Innkeeper persona and later encounters another of his disguises. The Inn rejects her demand for political exclusions but becomes essential to her procurement and outreach plans. (Chapters 164–168, 578)
  • Brandon Morrison: Brandon flirts openly with Miranda during council proceedings, provoking visible embarrassment without distracting her for long from the agenda. (Chapters 158–159)
  • Council of New Order: Miranda lacks the personal force of several members, but her ability to extract advantages from unfamiliar institutions earns their support and gives the new regime an off-world strategy. (Chapters 158, 165, 168)

Items

  • Council procurement: Miranda purchases Botlam Dew, cleansing towels, and travel kits in bulk for the Council of New Order. They are institutional supplies rather than her personal artifacts. (Chapter 165)
  • Protected computer: She provides access to a council machine guarded by a security question, enabling a sensitive inquiry while retaining organizational safeguards. (Chapter 578)
