Layla
Layla is the daughter of Vegus Minima's governor, raised by Grandma Noo in a world where killing restrained zombies is ordinary childhood training. Safety at the Inn gives her friendships and opportunities unavailable at home, but family hierarchy and unequal time flow gradually separate her from Jimmy.
Biography
Childhood under apocalypse
Grandma Noo raises Layla to kill bound zombies every day because Vegus Minima lives under constant existential pressure. The routine makes violence familiar and leaves ordinary safety difficult to process. At the Inn, Layla begins building a childhood around peers rather than survival drills, befriending Jimmy and assuming leadership among the Peacock Warriors while still carrying the reflexes of her home world. Growth and forced separation
A realm change purges Layla's body and gives her a cleaner foundation for cultivation, but social pressure proves harder to overcome. Her governor family regards Jimmy as beneath her station and separates them, turning a sincere childhood attachment into something constrained by rank. Their worlds' different time flows deepen the divide, so Jimmy matures far faster while Layla remains physically and emotionally young. (Chapters 459, 517, 624, 946, and 994)
Return to an altered friendship
When Layla returns, she is nostalgic for the friendship she remembers, while Jimmy is already an adult shaped by years she never lived. He denies romantic interest yet still arranges benefits for her world, preserving care without pretending their circumstances are unchanged. Her original peacock's continued service and training of riders later shows that Layla's early bond with the Peacock Warriors left a durable legacy on Vegus Minima. Appearance and personality
Layla is introduced as a child whose bearing is unusually composed around death because zombie execution has been normalized in her upbringing. At the Inn she is energetic, loyal, and comfortable taking charge of other young riders. She can be innocent about ordinary relationships while remaining practical about danger, and her later nostalgia reflects emotional continuity despite the time disparity that changes Jimmy more quickly than her. Layla has practical experience killing restrained zombies from childhood, giving her steadiness with weapons and corrupted enemies beyond what her age suggests. The transformation of her realm purges impurities from Layla's body, improving her basis for later cultivation without establishing a named stage. As leader of the Peacock Warriors she coordinates young riders and forms a lasting bond with her peacock.
