Karom Alejandro Forest III

Karom Alejandro Forest III is an adolescent Trelop whose consciousness and body extend through a forest. Casual and friendly in speech but strategic about territory, he allies with Lex because defeating his hostile relative Goli can both protect the expedition and provide the land Karom needs to mature.

Biography

Bargain with the expedition

Karom meets Lex while the human expedition is navigating Trelop lands and quickly adopts an informal, almost brotherly manner. Beneath the relaxed presentation is a specific developmental pressure: he needs more territory to reach adulthood. He offers guidance and specialized acorns that can hide Lex from Goli, turning the travelers' need for safety into an alliance that serves his own expansion. (Chapters 246–256)

Expanding against Goli

Karom helps the humans exploit openings in Goli's aggressively defended forest. Because both rivals are territorial lifeforms, their conflict is simultaneously personal combat and a struggle over living land. Karom's willingness to cooperate with non-Trelops gives him an advantage Goli's prejudice cannot imitate; the campaign weakens his relative and moves Karom closer to the territory required for adulthood. Appearance and personality

Karom's primary body is an entire forest, though he can communicate through localized manifestations rather than requiring visitors to address the landscape abstractly. He speaks with conspicuous ease, calling Lex “bro” and presenting dangerous plans as friendly cooperation. The humor does not erase his ambition: he is patient, opportunistic, and candid that helping the expedition also advances his own maturation. (Chapters 246–261)

Trelop territorial body

Karom exists as a living forest and can perceive or act through his territory. Expansion is biological development for him rather than simple conquest: acquiring enough land is tied to becoming an adult Trelop. The same structure imposes a limit, because his influence is strongest in or near owned territory and conflict with another Trelop becomes a direct contest over each being's body. (Chapters 246–269)

Functional acorns

Karom produces acorns with specialized effects, including one that conceals Lex from Goli's awareness. These tools let a mobile ally operate inside a rival forest where Karom cannot simply act without triggering direct resistance. Their full range, duration, and production cost are not explained, so the demonstrated concealment should not be treated as unlimited invisibility. (Chapters 249–256)
