Jessica is Lex's former boss and a concealed Bluebird cultivator responsible for identifying unregistered practitioners. Discovering Lex's cultivation

Jessica receives Lex in her office when he comes to leave his web-development job. A handshake reveals that he cannot yet control his enhanced strength, and she immediately restrains him while demanding his mentor, district, and registration history. Her suspicion is institutional rather than random aggression: an unknown cultivator without Bluebird credentials could be a hostile infiltrator, even when his advancement appears low. Jessica directs Lex into the Bluebird registration process and makes clear that a cultivator found without a personalized token can be detained.
