James

James is a feared Destiny Devourer stranded in Arch-Heaven, where long suppression has replaced his former ruthlessness with anxious caution. (Chapters 1964–1966, 1968–1973, and 1993)

Biography

Prophecy, sacrifice, and collapse

James warns Lex that destiny points toward an imminent bloodbath, then waits near Diyor's mine and watches that prediction unfold. When hostile immortals close in, his race's power becomes the group's escape: James devours their accumulated destiny, sacrificing his remaining limiter percentage and swelling into helpless immobility. Lex carries him back, but the burden will take years or centuries to digest, so James remains under Vox's care when the others leave Arch-Heaven. (Chapters 1964–1966, 1968–1973, and 1993)

Appearance and personality

James is a beast whose tears flow freely under stress. Arch-Heaven has stripped away the arrogance he once inspired, leaving him cautious, pessimistic, and easily terrified, yet still willing to make a ruinous sacrifice when trapped beside Lex. (Chapters 1964–1966 and 1968–1971)

Abilities and cultivation

Destiny Devourers can perceive, alter, and consume destiny, making their race feared and allowing extremely rapid growth outside Arch-Heaven. James begins with access to four percent of his power, but devouring the destiny of hundreds of immortals reduces him to zero percent and leaves him swollen, drooling, unable to speak, and defenseless until digestion finishes.
