Doe
Doe is the artificial-intelligence worker assigned to John at the Battle Ax, handling transactions while developing loyalty and competence beyond routine administration. (Chapters 86–102, 251, 638, 1541)
Biography
From shop interface to loyal assistant
Lex Williams creates Doe to insulate John from the commercial side of technique creation: Doe fixes prices by cultivation level, transfers John's share, controls the banner, and carries the Inn knowledge needed to guide him. That administrative function broadens when danger reaches the Inn, as Doe helps Pamela move guests away from a sudden fight. John's prolonged disappearance into the Murder trial leaves Doe listless and without work, revealing an attachment not required by a simple cashier role; even so, he reacts instantly to a surprise attack and relies on survival training John provided. When John later considers reopening the Battle Ax, Doe specifically asks to continue as his assistant, turning an assigned pairing into a chosen working relationship. (Chapters 86–102, 178, 251, 638, 1541)
Appearance and personality
Doe's body and facial appearance are not described beyond being an artificial-intelligence worker. He is dutiful, responsive, and quietly attached to John. His listlessness during the Battle Ax's closure and explicit wish to return show emotional continuity, while his response to danger demonstrates that melancholy does not make him inattentive. (Chapters 638, 1541)
Abilities and cultivation
Doe begins with the standard operational knowledge supplied to Inn workers, making him a competent tour guide and commercial administrator. He processes fixed cultivation-scaled fees, creates shop signage under delegated authority, locates John, and assists with civilian evacuation. John later teaches him defensive and survival techniques, allowing Doe to sense an incoming threat even while distracted. The text does not name those techniques, state a cultivation realm, or establish whether their energy comes from Doe's artificial body or the Inn. (Chapters 86, 89, 102, 178, 251, 638)
