Charles Best is an ancient Dark Elf shaman king reincarnated in a frail human body. He rebuilds his medical practice at the Midnight Inn, combining memories from the Origin realm's earliest age with modern study and an intense desire to heal companions who survived his former life. Biography

Reincarnation and emergency medicine

Charles awakens in a seventeen-year-old human body unable to cultivate and immediately faces a planetary poisoning crisis. His old techniques are incompatible with the changed realm and his new body, so he burns external items as fuel and applies natural knowledge to slow the poison in hundreds of civilians. That adaptability draws Lex's attention: Charles accepts evacuation and employment at the Inn, where continued access to resources gives him a way to survive while his treatment saves refugees whom conventional care cannot stabilize. An ancient healer studying the present

At the Inn, Charles turns broad curiosity into medical reform, arguing over training and treatment while continuing to handle mass casualties. His reincarnated past remains guarded, but recognition by an ancient dragon and his later thunder tribulation confirm that the inexperienced human exterior conceals a much older survivor. A message from Vaelgorith then gives his work a personal direction: some former companions remain alive in cryostasis, so Charles quietly studies until he can heal them and uncover what destroyed their age. Charles's expertise makes him the Inn's researcher inside Taro's Journal, where normal flight, teleportation, and extended spirit sense are suppressed. He explores physically, extracts information about torn space, realm development, and the Dream realm, and reports it to Lex over years. When Jack later requests sensitive material, Charles refuses to release it on assertion alone and seeks authorization, showing that his development is not only technical: he has become a careful custodian of the Inn's dangerous knowledge. Appearance and personality

Charles appears as an extremely skinny, fair young man in a white doctor's coat. His body initially has no cultivation, but his poise, confidence, and old-fashioned knowledge make him seem far older than his face. He is talkative, opinionated, professionally cautious, and prone to pursuing many interests at once, yet becomes disciplined when a patient or confidential request is at stake. Natural medicine and adaptive diagnosis

Charles treats unfamiliar poisons by understanding them as parts of nature, manipulating interactions among plants, animals, energy, and the patient's body rather than relying on a single antidote. Ancient knowledge lets him extrapolate treatments even for species he has never encountered, while modern study fills gaps left by his former era. His earliest human body cannot fuel old techniques, so he depends on consumable external energy and local materials; the Journal realm later imposes additional limits by blocking flight, teleportation, and ranged spirit sense. Reincarnated memory and immortal power

As a third-generation Dark Elf and former shaman king, Charles retains triggered knowledge of early Origin-realm medicine, curses, and natural phenomena. He can drive away an otherwise unseen danger during the Temple expedition and later undergoes a thunder tribulation, but the narrative does not state his post-tribulation realm in the same direct terms as his initial scan.
