Biography

Death, guardianship, and a new alliance

Nearly a million years old and kept alive only by a vast ship, Abroar initially resists becoming a spirit because it means losing both his original form and bloodline continuity. With no viable alternative, he brings a surviving child of his race to the Inn, entrusts the child to careful custody, and gives up all his wealth through Beyond the Grave. Reborn as a spirit, he accepts the loss of his former senses so he can guide the child and preserve his people's legacy. Years at the Inn teach him that allies can protect even a weakened race; acting on that lesson, he voluntarily offers Lex Williams Cthulhu insight into dreams and mind consumption, turning a survival bargain into genuine service. Appearance and personality

Abroar's original body is described only as an enormous gray being contained in his ship. As a new spirit he appears as a gray, translucent ball and communicates directly into listeners' minds with a voice that has become soothing rather than madness-inducing. Proud and initially aloof, he is nevertheless protective of his surviving kin, sentimental about his race, and increasingly willing to cooperate. (Chapters 401, 437, 450, 2201)

Abilities and cultivation

Before conversion, Abroar is an immensely knowledgeable cultivator whose ship's sensors can inspect nearly the whole Inn, although ninety-nine percent of its energy must sustain his dying body. Beyond the Grave removes that body, wealth, cultivation, and old senses, resetting him as a spirit with no initial cultivation. As a Cthulhu spirit he retains knowledge of growing by devouring minds and spirits; he explains that slowly extracting what a mind can yield is more fruitful than immediate consumption.
