Clarisse

Clarisse is the primordial who commands every branch of Leo's military and trains Kai LuForia for the coming battle with Aion. Her instruction combines punishing physical conditioning, lessons in primordial perception and creation, moral trials, and live operations against Aion's followers. Although she initially judges Kai by divine standards, learning that he was raised as a mortal changes her from a contemptuous drillmaster into a demanding mentor who takes both his potential and his resemblance to Aion seriously.

Biography

From military chief to primordial instructor

Clarisse enters the story when Leo brings Kai to a training ground after Kai disrupts his public introduction. She kneels to Leo as her lord, but her position is far from ceremonial: Leo identifies her as the head of all his military branches, including the space navy, and as one of Divinity City's strongest primordials. Kai's newly acquired Titan strength, clones, and binding magic do not trouble her. She knocks him unconscious before he realizes she has moved, establishing that his raw ascent has not supplied the judgment or control needed to confront Aion. (Chapter 555)

Her first assessment of Kai is harsh. After repeated conditioning leaves him unconscious, Clarisse calls him pathetic and asks where his divine grit is. Leo's account of Kai's sealed heritage forces her to reconsider that judgment: unlike a deity born into cosmic perception and privilege, Kai spent his life believing himself mortal and recovered his identity step by step. Because Clarisse was born and raised as a deity, she cannot fully share that experience, but she accepts that his weaknesses are the cost of an upbringing deliberately designed to prevent another rebellion like Aion's. Kai exterminates its civilization and destroys the planet, refusing her expectation that he educate or reform its inhabitants. When three self-destructive civilizations approach extinction, he uses hypnosis to end their wars rather than abandoning or annihilating them, complicating her fear that he is simply repeating Aion's path. Against Narwhal, Clarisse initially mistakes Kai's taunting and apparent carelessness for a failure of discipline. Once she notices that he deliberately took Narwhal's severed arm as a tracking focus and allowed an extraction team to reveal its refuge, she recognizes the plan. Their teacher-student exchange has therefore become more reciprocal: she continues testing his judgment, while his mortal habits and improvisation force her to reassess what effective primordial strategy can look like. The pursuit turns instruction into a joint military operation. At the refuge, Kai orders Clarisse to kill the primordials who reject his offer, and she dispatches the group with ease. She then helps him impersonate Aion by evaluating his mannerisms, supplying knowledge of Aion and his associates, and coordinating a false-traitor narrative that draws Aion's followers into conflict with the Divine Guard. During the staged battle she meets Kai in armed combat so her troops will believe they face the real Aion, accepts severe bodily and soul-deep wounds as part of the deception, then orders a retreat with enough authority to extract the force. When the real Aion escapes and strikes Divine Guard headquarters, Clarisse presses Kai to act because Leo has placed him in charge. His refusal infuriates her, but once the attack begins she separates the necessary duties: she directs Kai toward the wounded, then turns to confront the invading force when he instead withdraws into a pocket dimension to perfect his command of the universal laws and progenitor decay. Her latest shown position is therefore both commander and mentor under crisis—responsible for holding the military front while the student she has trained prepares for the enemy only he is expected to defeat. Appearance and personality

Clarisse is a brown-skinned woman with long, wavy hair, hazel eyes, a heavily muscled build, thick thighs, and a large bust. She stands at least seven feet tall, enough that the six-foot-five Kai must look up at her. Her physique reflects her identity as a lifelong warrior rather than an attempt to fit a conventionally delicate image; when Kai asks about it, she treats muscularity as the ordinary result of her profession. She is disciplined, direct, and deeply loyal to Leo, habitually kneeling or bowing to him even when he asks her to dispense with ceremony. As an instructor she is severe enough to normalize agony and repeated unconsciousness, yet she is not emotionally indifferent: she changes her view when Kai's mortal upbringing is explained, encourages him after failure, worries when he is stabbed, and fears seeing another student become Aion. As head of every branch of Leo's military, Clarisse commands the Divine Guard across planetary and space warfare. She can coordinate deception without compromising the troops' genuine response, coaching Kai's Aion impersonation while keeping most guards unaware so their attack will be convincing. After the feigned deaths and withdrawal, she restores order by explaining the plan, then resumes the broader preparation campaign.
