Aaron Cheston

Aaron Cheston is the young heir of House Cheston and Emerald's unwanted fiancé. His entitlement, participation in his family's pressure campaign, and fixation on killing Kai LuForia culminate in Emerald defeating and executing him during the destruction of the Cheston estate.

Biography

Coercive engagement and the fall of House Cheston

Aaron approaches Emerald at the Hero Academy as though their marriage is settled, arguing that her declining house leaves her no choice but to accept him. Emerald rejects both the engagement and his condescension, accusing his side of involvement in an earlier attempt on her life. Aaron attacks when she mocks his fear, only for Kai to slap him aside. After seeing Emerald embrace Kai following a demon attack, Aaron adds Kai to his intended victims, combining wounded pride with a possessive belief that Emerald is already his. (Chapters 159–162)

When Kai, Emerald, and Nadya raid the Cheston estate, Aaron appeals to his father and relies on the family's strongest knight rather than taking control himself. The knight falls, Nadya destroys most of the family in revenge for their earlier crimes, and Emerald takes Aaron outside for a final duel. Aaron uses earth and plant magic to fight back, but Emerald overwhelms him and condemns the abuse he expected marriage to permit. She pulls him into a pool of lava, ending both his pursuit of her and his place in the Cheston succession. (Chapters 182–184)

Appearance and personality

Aaron is twenty-one years old and is described by Emerald as ugly during their last battle, but the narrative gives no hair color, eye color, height, build, or distinctive clothing. (Chapters 182 and 184)

He is arrogant, possessive, vindictive, and dependent on inherited status. Aaron frames Emerald's family crisis as leverage for marriage, reacts violently to humiliation, and seeks his father's protection when the consequences reach his home. (Chapters 159–162 and 182–184)

Powers and abilities

Aaron can manipulate earth and vegetation. He throws trees, raises ground spikes, creates an earth spear, and forms earthen restraints that halt his own movement. He can merge incoming spikes into the spear to extend its reach, showing adaptive control, but Emerald's wind, lava, swordsmanship, and martial skill consistently outmatch him. His formal tier is not stated. (Chapter 184)
