Stygian Tiger Seal

The Stygian Tiger Seal is an artifact forged by Wei WuXian to command corpses and spirits, whose power proves difficult even for its creator to control.

History

Creation and division

Wei WuXian forged the Seal from an unusual piece of iron found inside the Xuanwu of Slaughter. After discovering that it could overpower his own commands and cause indiscriminate bloodshed, he split it into two halves so it would work only when joined. He used the completed Seal during the Sunshot Campaign and again at Nightless City, then destroyed one half before the first siege of Burial Mound interrupted his attempt to destroy the remainder. (Chapters 30, 72, and 78)

Reconstruction and later use

The LanlingJin Sect retained Xue Yang because he could use the surviving half to reconstruct the missing portion. The restored version was weaker and had limited uses, but it could still command large numbers of corpses independently of Wei WuXian. (Chapters 30, 34–37, and 68)

The Seal was later used in the attempt to annihilate the gathered cultivators at Burial Mound. At Guanyin Temple, Jin GuangYao said that he had completely destroyed the restored Seal because it was exhausted and useless. The object was not produced for inspection, but later discussion treated it as scrap or possibly sealed in his coffin. (Chapters 79–86, 105, and 113)

Abilities and properties

• When its halves are joined, it can command large numbers of corpses and spirits. (Chapters 30 and 78)
• Corpses already under the Seal's command do not answer Wei WuXian's competing orders. (Chapters 34 and 68)
• Its power can exceed the wielder's intended control and cause widespread bloodshed. (Chapter 30)
• Xue Yang's reconstruction was less powerful and could be used only a limited number of times. (Chapters 30 and 105)
