Wendy

Wendy Jones is a young Oni Magic Demon who joins the Darklight Host as Karl's runecrafting disciple. Her love of carving and magic develops into two complementary careers: manufacturing enchanted goods with Commander Loros, and using Dark Flame to write persistent spell arrays as a Demonic Array Master.

Biography

Choosing an Apprenticeship Beyond a Sheltered Home

Wendy arrives with talent but little independence. Raised in a comfortable household with four older brothers, servants, and few occasions to form or state her own preferences, she nevertheless knows that she loves painting, carving, and magic. Her detailed wind-carved dragon toys convince Dana and Karl that the interest is genuine. When her father proposes an apprenticeship, Karl transfers Apprentice Runesmith to her, and Wendy's exuberant response makes her own choice unmistakable: she wants the work and the new world it opens. (Chapter 773)

She learns beside Loros, producing Commander-grade mana-storage and skill-power rings because her existing magic already supports that rank. Their lack of old runecrafting habits becomes an advantage under Karl's instruction, and Wendy progresses from practice rings to large production batches, weapons, jewellery, and charms. A dangerous dungeon later leaves both apprentices shocked and frightened, tempering the excitement of guild life with direct knowledge of its risks; Wendy returns to the workshop rather than abandoning the path. (Chapters 778–809 and 831–886)

Curiosity Expands Into Guild Service

Although workshop orders keep Wendy busy, she volunteers to deliver alliance goods because the role lets her see unfamiliar places and encounter new magic. Inventory storage makes her suitable for bulk transport, while her rank and guild connection make her a dependable courier for sensitive customers. She embraces the social side of the work as readily as the logistics, arriving wrapped around a gargoyle she has just met and carrying products between the Drodh house, allied sites, and the guild's wider network. (Chapters 1093–1095 and 1138)

The delivery role does not replace her studies. Wendy questions Hugo about esoteric magical theory and recognizes that copied runes cannot reproduce results without compatible intent and proficiency. These experiences make her useful as more than a messenger: she can assess unusual magical requests, understand why a design might fail, and return that practical knowledge to the workshop. (Chapters 1098 and 1232)

Dark Flame and the Demonic Array Master

By Royal Rank, Wendy has grown into an Arcane-aligned Oni mage who actively seeks new spells from dragons and other teachers. She asks Karl for Dark Flame, and the transfer triggers a class choice. Rather than accept a generic mage path, she selects Demonic Array Master, a class that joins her demonic flame to the runic skills and crafting experience she has already accumulated. The choice rewards the direction she deliberately built rather than discarding her apprenticeship for an unrelated combat class. (Chapters 1298–1299)

Wendy demonstrates the new class by writing Dark Flame spell circles in the air. The arrays are slow to inscribe, but persist like magical items without requiring a physical item, and her first Royal-grade defensive barrier is stronger than expected because of her runic knowledge. Her father still urges restraint: a potion had already carried her past Commander, and advancing a young demon too rapidly risks outrunning natural growth. Wendy continues developing within those limits while serving as Karl's runecrafting disciple and VIP agent, where her judgment helps reject an Azov gift design whose duplicated workers might inherit the recipient's complaints and worsen his workload. (Chapters 1298, 1672–1674, and 1678)

Appearance and personality

Wendy is a teen Oni Demon with red eyes and a tail that swishes visibly beneath her skirt; otherwise she can appear nearly human. She later wears a frilly Guild Store Clerk uniform for delivery work because she considers it cute. Wendy is affectionate, energetic, and intensely curious about magic. She is initially hesitant about social rules after a sheltered upbringing, yet quickly becomes willing to question experts, travel alone for the guild, and offer practical criticism. Her enthusiasm can be impulsive—especially around interesting creatures—but she is also capable of spotting the human consequences of a technically clever magical design. (Chapters 773–774, 1093–1095, 1232, 1298, and 1672–1674)

Abilities and class

Magic Demon progression

Wendy is an Arcane-aligned Magic Demon rather than an innately Unholy caster. Wind magic first appears in her carving, where she shapes detailed wooden dragons without conventional tools. She is already powerful enough to enchant Commander-grade practice pieces when apprenticed, later reaches Royal Rank, and has learned broadly from magical visitors. Her father reveals that a prior potion helped her pass Commander and argues against forcing another rapid advance while she is still growing, establishing a biological and developmental limit even when external resources are available. (Chapters 773, 778, 1232, and 1298)

Runecrafting and sculpture

The Apprentice Runesmith transfer gives Wendy a structured trade skill for enchanting the objects she already likes to carve. She creates wooden rings that store mana and raise skill power, inscribes production runs at Commander grade, and works on weapons, jewellery, charms, and nature-assisted workshop goods. Runecrafting also generates skill points that support her later class choice. Its results are not purely calligraphic: maker intent, skill proficiency, compatible class features, and rank determine the product's ceiling, so Wendy cannot guarantee Karl-quality enchantments merely by copying his rune sequences. (Chapters 773, 778, 784, 803–805, 850, 862, 1098, and 1298)

Demonic arrays and Dark Flame

As a Demonic Array Master, Wendy writes spells in the air with Dark Flame, producing long-lasting circles that behave like enchanted objects without a physical substrate. Her runecrafting background strengthens their construction, and the class can turn a deliberately written array into a formidable Royal-ranked barrier. The main demonstrated limitation is speed: an array takes time to write, so it is better suited to prepared defence and durable magical infrastructure than an instant response. The corpus establishes the class at Royal Rank but does not show a later rank increase or the full breadth of its spell list. (Chapter 1298)

  • Karl: Karl grants Wendy her first runecrafting skill, teaches its fundamentals, and later transfers Dark Flame, enabling her specialist class. She remains his disciple and provides both crafting and VIP delivery work. (Chapters 773–809, 1298, and 1672)
  • Commander Loros: Loros is Wendy's senior fellow sculptor and daily workshop partner. They learn runecrafting together, divide production, develop charm ideas, and make guild deliveries as a pair. (Chapters 773–850 and 1128)
  • Dana: Dana recognizes Wendy's natural sculpting talent, welcomes her warmly, and remains one of the guild members Wendy greets with open affection after later advancements. (Chapters 773 and 1298)
  • Sapphire: Wendy serves as a trusted courier to Sapphire and studies how the Mythic runecrafter's goods affect the alliance market. Their connection also places Wendy between the Drodh workshop and higher-ranked magical production. (Chapters 1673 and 1678)
