Nacht
Nacht is a Black Dragon cleric who represents death and order in the Divine Beast Nation. Initially a Totem-ranked referee, he becomes Karl's partner in a lost-temple trial, keeps vigil over an aging Golden Dragon, and advances to Mythic as the world's returning mana makes Immortality possible again.
Biography
A Black Dragon referee becomes Karl's trial partner
Nacht enters the Divine Beast Nation's arena as a Totem Black Dragon and white-named cleric serving as a referee. He encourages formal matches rather than uncontrolled conflict and supports the Golden Dragon's authority, placing death-aligned power in service of rules. When a lost temple requires investigation, he joins an Archbishop and Karl's group to activate it, accepting risk because the structure may reveal both divine history and current danger. (Chapters 568 and 583)
Inside the trial, Nacht flies with Karl, offers him transport on his back, uses soul sight, and changes into a human form to navigate the ruins. His knowledge of Dwarven history and runes helps interpret what the test is showing, while his recognition of the Laughing God's methods prevents strange reward calculations and illusions from being treated as random accidents. The shared investigation changes him from an official at the edge of Karl's conflict into a trusted witness who can compare magical perceptions with him directly. (Chapters 583, 586, 598, and 603–604)
Vigil and resurgence carry Nacht toward Immortality
Nacht's clearest expression of duty comes when he watches over an aging Golden Dragon for months, ready to intervene if death arrives badly or the surrounding balance breaks. The vigil suits a Black Dragon cleric: he neither hastens death nor denies it, but remains present to keep the transition orderly. He later reads powerful combat fluctuations during Karl's trial and explains them to less experienced observers, extending the same watchfulness from an individual life to dangerous magical events. (Chapters 725 and 1210)
By the later resurgence, Supreme Lady Matilda calls Nacht an old Myth and believes recovering mana may soon let him reach Immortality. A later account says a Black Dragon inheritance transferred to Karl when Nacht advanced without family nearby, implying another consequential breakthrough but not naming its resulting rank clearly enough to override the earlier sourced Mythic status. The inheritance is largely restricted to Black Dragons, and Karl intends eventually to pass it to Nachtia, tying Nacht's lonely advancement to a future family legacy. (Chapters 1201 and 1425)
Appearance and personality
In full form Nacht is a Black Dragon with massive onyx claws. His trial form is a black-robed man about 190 centimetres tall, and one transformation is marked by a huge golden eye. The corpus does not give a dependable description of his hair, other facial features, or full scale pattern, and the unusual eye should not be generalized beyond the shown form. (Chapters 568, 583, and 604)
Nacht is formal, curious, dryly humorous, and patient with solemn duties. He enjoys a good contest but channels it through refereeing, asks questions when unfamiliar magic appears, and can spend months maintaining a deathbed vigil. His ease with Karl during the temple trial and later joking about dragon adoption show warmth beneath the representative of death-and-order role. (Chapters 568, 583–604, 725, and 1213)
Abilities and class
Nacht is a Black Dragon cleric who progresses from Totem to confirmed Mythic rank. His white System name identifies the clerical role when introduced, but the corpus does not provide the exact class title, awakening history, or a list of holy death spells. His Black Dragon heritage supplies a large draconic body and natural flight, while human transformation lets him operate in confined or mixed-species settings. (Chapters 568 and 583)
He possesses soul sight comparable enough to Karl's perception for the two to recognize what the other is examining. Nacht can also sense and interpret large magical fluctuations, including the high-Overlord forces in Karl's trial, and he has scholarly knowledge of Dwarven runes and divine tests. Knowledge of Runecrafting standards does not establish that he personally owns the Runecrafting skill. (Chapters 583, 586, 603–604, 710, and 1210)
Nacht's later progression is deliberately uncertain. Matilda expects an Immortal advance to become possible, and a later inheritance transfer confirms that he advanced in isolation, but the narrator does not explicitly label that destination. His latest safe description is therefore Mythic with evidence of a subsequent breakthrough, not confirmed Immortal. The inherited effect is also lineage-bound and transferable; it is not a general cleric spell. (Chapters 1201 and 1425)
Relationships
- Karl: Nacht becomes Karl's trial partner and fellow magical observer, trusting him with flight, interpretation, and later knowledge of the Black Dragon inheritance. (Chapters 583–604 and 1425)
- Hawk: Both possess unusual soul-related perception, giving Karl a point of comparison for Nacht's soul sight, though the corpus does not make them formal teacher and student. (Chapters 583–586)
- Ophelia: Nacht serves as referee around the Divine Beast Nation's competitive disputes and supports formal resolution within the community Ophelia helps defend. (Chapter 568)
- Nachtia: Nachtia is the intended eventual recipient of the Black Dragon inheritance that passed to Karl when Nacht advanced without nearby family. (Chapter 1425)
Items
Nacht has no standalone item in the scoped catalog. The Black Dragon inheritance associated with his advancement is a transferable lineage effect rather than a clearly described carried object, and the corpus does not establish its complete mechanics or custody path.
