Marcus

Marcus is a Totem-ranked Arcane Mage who joins Cindy, two clerics, and Karl for a Myceloid Dungeon run. He is an experienced combat mage but still early in the higher-order comprehension needed for Mythic rank, having only recently gained System recognition of a minor Arcane affinity.

Biography

A seasoned mage confronts the distance to Mythic rank

Marcus meets Karl while assembling Cindy's borrowed dungeon team. Karl's long list of active and passive abilities initially leaves him baffled, but he responds with humor and proceeds into the run rather than treating unfamiliar mechanics as a reason to withdraw. The team succeeds, and Marcus's later questions shift from individual skills to Fundamental Rules: he asks which law Karl intends to study and explains that recognized compatibility is only an opening, since full understanding is required for immortality. His own minor Arcane affinity places him on that same long path without implying that he has reached Mythic rank. (Chapters 1115–1123)

Outside the dungeon, Marcus remains socially comfortable with his group, displaying Rae-made robes and teasing the vampire Reggie with an unwanted nickname based on his scent. The joke shows an established team dynamic rather than a new plot development. His latest state is active with Cindy's team, equipped for future runs and still developing Arcane comprehension. (Chapters 1122–1124)

Appearance and personality

Marcus is a male mage who wears black robes made by Rae, marked with her spider maker's symbol. The corpus gives no species, hair, eye, height, or weapon description. (Chapters 1115 and 1122)

He is curious, dryly humorous, and comfortable admitting gaps in his knowledge. He asks what Karl's unfamiliar skills do, speaks seriously about Fundamental Rules, and teases Reggie despite repeated requests to stop using the nickname “Nilla.” (Chapters 1116–1124)

Abilities and class

Marcus is an Arcane Mage operating with a Totem-ranked group. His System has only recently recognized a minor affinity to Arcane Magic, establishing the beginning of Rule comprehension rather than mastery. No named attack, barrier, range, or mana cost is assigned specifically to him. (Chapters 1115–1123)

He understands that Fundamental Rules are central to reaching Mythic rank and that complete comprehension of one is needed for immortality. This is informed knowledge, not proof that he can already manipulate a Fundamental Rule. No later advancement or new skill appears after the dungeon. (Chapter 1123)

Relationships

  • Cindy: Cindy introduces Marcus as part of her regular team and discusses advancement with him after their run. (Chapters 1115–1123)
  • Karl: Marcus fights beside Karl, questions his unusually broad skill set, and compares their early compatibility with Fundamental Rules. (Chapters 1115–1123)
  • Reggie: Marcus is comfortable enough with the vampire cleric to tease him with “Nilla,” though Reggie repeatedly objects to the nickname. (Chapters 1115 and 1124)
  • Rae: Marcus wears Rae's black mage robes and openly displays her spider maker's mark as proof of their origin. (Chapters 1115 and 1122)

Items

Marcus has no scoped catalog item. His black mage robes are identifiable Darklight Host craft, but they have no individual item name in the approved manifest. (Chapters 1115 and 1122)
