Elder Socrate

Elder Socrate is the New Home Merchant Clan's Alchemy Hall Elder and Remi's principal alchemical collaborator. His specialized class exchanges broad shamanic summoning for deeper Alchemy, while his healing totems, commercial judgment, and field experience make him useful well beyond the laboratory.

Biography

Remi turns an Alchemy Hall elder into a delighted mentor

Socrate is first mentioned as the Elder responsible for a work dispute and soon meets Remi at the Alchemy Hall. She offers recipes, a hair-growth cream, and a rare blue flower; he responds by plunging into rapid technical alchemy jargon and leaving with the tiny Naga wrapped around his arm. Their immediate affinity is professional as much as comic. Remi needs recipes and institutional access, while Socrate recognizes rare material and an inventive mind worth supervising. (Chapters 1511 and 1522)

Socrate's authority places Remi under his supervision during her Alchemy Hall work, although another Elder can temporarily transfer that duty for a clan-wide project. Their connection persists beyond the assignment. By the time Thor arrives, Socrate calls Remi his apprentice and greets the beast she describes as her brother with delighted familiarity, then referees the resulting arena match. He becomes a mentor willing to fold her unconventional family and discoveries into the Hall rather than isolate her as an outsider. (Chapters 1537 and 1665–1666)

Dungeon work turns private research into clan capability

Socrate later invites Karl and Remi to help clan members obtain classes suited to advancement. He and Remi develop Runic Alchemy pills, but he accepts that untested formulas require clinical trials rather than casual use on children or animals. In the field he supplies healing totems and immediately identifies their limitation against a Fire Domain: the domain can burn the totems themselves, forcing the team to assign primary healing elsewhere. His expertise is therefore useful because he knows when a favored tool will fail. (Chapters 1713 and 1724)

Dungeon expeditions broaden the partnership. Socrate negotiates payment for extra runs, guides the group toward inscriptionists and library contacts, and searches with Remi for rare ingredients worth cultivating. By the Immortal World period he spends nearly every waking minute with her and can become so focused on reagents that his surroundings fade from notice. In the latest chapter he presents pairs of potions to new Elders—one for each Elder and one for an Acolyte—showing that his research remains embedded in the clan's system of mentorship and succession. (Chapters 1730, 1735, 1791, 1826, and 1927)

Appearance and personality

The corpus provides no dependable description of Socrate's height, species, eyes, or clothing. Remi jokes about fixing his hairline, but a sales pitch is not enough to establish the exact extent of hair loss. He is often shown with notebooks or at counters and referee stands, visual cues to his habits and office rather than a complete portrait. (Chapters 1522, 1666, and 1714)

Socrate is enthusiastic, scholarly, practical, and easily consumed by Alchemy. He laughs readily, accepts Remi's unusual manner without hesitation, and carries professional caution into experimental work. His complaints during speed-run dungeons and jokes in combat show that he is not a cloistered researcher; he can function under pressure while remaining honest about limits, payment, and the absurdity of the situation. (Chapters 1522–1523, 1665, 1713, 1724, 1730–1731, and 1826)

Abilities and class

Socrate is an Immortal Elder with a specialized, Alchemy-focused class described as adjacent to Shaman rather than purely shamanistic. He chose it after concentrating on Alchemy skills, and the specialization prevents him from using summoning skills such as the Spirit Bear available to broader shamanic paths. The exact class name, original awakening, and advancement chronology are not stated. (Chapter 1728)

His core craft is Alchemy, including recipe evaluation, rare-reagent identification, potion production, and collaborative Runic Alchemy. Runic Alchemy can create new pill forms, but the examples under development have not completed clinical trials, establishing a meaningful safety and validation limit. His latest distribution of paired potions confirms continued production without identifying those potions' exact effects. (Chapters 1522, 1713, 1791, and 1927)

In combat Socrate maintains healing totems for group recovery and understands positioning and encounter mechanics well enough to adjust plans. The totems are destructible—Fire Domains can burn them—and therefore cannot serve as universal primary healing. He also acts as an arena referee and accompanies Immortal dungeon teams, but the corpus does not demonstrate a named direct attack spell or establish that every alchemical product Remi uses was made by him. (Chapters 1666, 1724, and 1730–1731)

His latest mastery combines alchemical research, runic collaboration, support healing, ingredient cultivation strategy, and institutional mentoring. He can connect Dana and Remi with inscription specialists and evaluate class-building proposals, yet still relies on specialists in those fields. The limit is productive specialization: Socrate knows enough to coordinate adjacent crafts without being presented as their sole master. (Chapters 1713, 1735, 1791, and 1826)

Relationships

  • Remi: Remi is Socrate's apprentice, close collaborator, and near-constant research companion. Her recipes and rare materials excite him; his Hall access, experience, and caution give her experimentation an institutional home. (Chapters 1522, 1665, 1713, 1791, and 1826)
  • Karl: Karl introduces Remi to Socrate and later joins him in class planning and dungeon work. Socrate respects Karl's power while readily challenging stinginess or impractical assumptions. (Chapters 1522, 1713, 1728, and 1730)
  • Dana: Socrate supports Dana's interest in inscription by taking her and Remi to meet specialist inscriptionists, acting as a connector rather than claiming superior skill. (Chapter 1735)
  • Thor: Remi's stories make Thor familiar to Socrate before they meet. Socrate welcomes him, referees his arena match, and later treats his combat strength as part of the clan's expanding network. (Chapters 1665–1666)
  • Elder Alix: Alix and Socrate adventure together as Elders with different specialized classes. Their inability to use shamanic summons illustrates how advanced paths narrow as well as strengthen a practitioner. (Chapter 1728)

Items

Socrate has no standalone item in the scoped catalog. Potions, notebooks, healing totems, and alchemical reagents recur in his work, but the corpus does not establish a single named persistent possession assigned to him for a separate item article.
