Dave

Dave is a name shared by three clearly distinct figures: a human Bureau agent who helps train and protect young Elites, Joram's Peregrine Falcon after magical evolution, and the Immortal dragon Davocarakint. The falcon is the only Dave whose power progression is shown in detail; references to the human or Immortal must not be used to enlarge the bird's biography.

Biography

A Bureau agent turns surveillance into protection and teaching

The human Dave works with Jill in the Bureau of Elite Development and is already familiar enough with Colonel Valerie's discipline to be the subject of a warning before he appears directly. He and Jill act as Dana's personal trainers, remain near the recovering students, and later accompany Bureau deployments intended to rescue promising Elites from the worst combat zones. His role combines oversight with the practical recognition that talented students cannot develop if official protection lets them die. (Chapters 71, 77, 137, and 259)

Dave later works on lesson plans beside Ophelia, helps move recovering teams from hospital care back toward deployment, and joins Bureau personnel bringing equipment to a field site. A wedding guest list still includes a Dave among Karl's early teachers and allies, most plausibly this agent, but the brief mention does not establish later rank or office. His personal class and combat skills remain unstated. (Chapters 323, 327, 400, and 1201)

A common falcon's evolution creates a Beast Ranger partnership

Joram's Dave begins as an ordinary bonded Peregrine Falcon. Because standard Rangers cannot bond intelligent magical beasts, Joram asks Karl to evolve his existing partner rather than replace him. Karl transfers [Flaming Body] through [Follow Me Little One], turning Dave into a Common magical beast whose clearer thoughts and new nature trigger Joram's advancement into Beast Ranger. The bird remains bonded to Joram even while stubbornly clinging to Karl after the transformation. (Chapters 665–666)

Dave immediately tests his enhanced wings, leaving a trail of fire as he circles the building faster than before. Hawk notes that the new volunteer can support training, while Karl predicts that [Flaming Body] can carry his growth at least to Commander and perhaps Royal rank if danger does not outpace development. By Chapter 685 Dave has reached Commander rank and matches power with Joram, confirming rapid growth without showing a second species evolution. (Chapters 665–667 and 685)

Davocarakint solves a planetary mana burden by moving the planet

A third Dave appears among Immortals under the formal name Davocarakint. He is a non-Chromatic Dragon who grew tired of supplying mana to his whole planet and moved it into the Immortal Realm within a separate space. The feat demonstrates vast spatial and energy capability, but the corpus gives no class, exact species, mechanics, or later appearance sufficient to connect him to either the Bureau agent or the bird. (Chapters 1220–1221)

This Immortal's nickname exists because his Draconic name is cumbersome in Common, whereas the other two are simply introduced as Dave. A much later school exercise mentioning “Dave's mom” is generic and cannot be assigned to any of the three sourced identities. (Chapters 1220 and 1767)

Appearance and personality

The human Dave receives no reliable physical description. His work as Dana's trainer, a Bureau agent, and a lesson planner portrays a professional adult but does not establish height, hair, clothing, or species beyond the ordinary human context of the early Academy scenes. (Chapters 137, 259, and 323)

The bird Dave is a small Peregrine Falcon who becomes a flaming magical bird. He is affectionate, stubborn, eager to fly, and fast enough that catching him is difficult even before his later rank growth. Davocarakint appears as an Immortal man who is “a Dragon of some sort” but not Chromatic; no further body description is given. (Chapters 665–667 and 1220)

Abilities and class

No class or named ability is shown for the human Bureau agent. He provides physical training, protection, lesson planning, and field security, all consistent with his job but insufficient to infer a System path or rank. His interest in purchasing a drake scale likewise shows practical evaluation rather than a confirmed crafting skill. (Chapters 137, 259, and 323)

Falcon Dave gains [Flaming Body] from Karl. The skill surrounds him in defensive and offensive flame, leaves a fiery trail in flight, and provides enough growth potential to carry a Common magical beast through multiple ranks. It does not make him invulnerable: Karl warns Joram not to expose him to threats above his rapidly changing level, and Blink Cats remain a plausible danger through stealth and hunting skill. (Chapters 665–667)

The evolved bond gives Joram clearer access to Dave's thoughts and contributes to the Beast Ranger class, whose tree improves beast statistics and lets the Ranger benefit more from the partner's physical traits. Those are bond interactions, not skills Dave independently casts. His latest explicit rank is Commander, with Royal only a prediction. (Chapters 665–666 and 685)

Davocarakint can maintain or move a planet-sized separate space into the Immortal Realm, ending the need to feed its inhabitants mana from outside. The statement establishes outcome but not spell name, cost, duration, or whether other collaborators were involved. His Immortal status must not be attributed to the falcon or Bureau agent. (Chapter 1220)
