Azov

Azov is the Immortal Regent of Sholaha and the White Dragon's Avatar. He combines divine healing and ancient magical expertise with economic governance, using both to keep sudden wealth, powerful visitors, and Immortal advancements from destabilizing the nation he intends eventually to leave to a successor.

Biography

An Immortal regent contains the prosperity Karl creates

Azov summons Karl after a bracelet bearing [Sacred Heal] threatens to disrupt Sholaha's market. Rather than simply confiscate it, he inspects the runic projection with golden holy eyes, confirms that he can use the spell himself, and explains that divine magic depends on compatibility with the granting deity. The encounter makes Karl's craft a governance problem: an item can be beneficial in isolation yet still redistribute wealth and clerical authority fast enough to harm the society around it. (Chapter 1109)

Azov is already preparing a successor, a peak Totem candidate expected to inherit both the regency and clerical office, but refuses to retire to the Immortal Realm until that successor is also Immortal. He changes dungeon rules so one champion cannot monopolize every reward, then negotiates monthly item auctions instead of imposing a ban on Karl's goods. The compromise lets Sholaha profit while slowing the concentration of power. His concern is systemic stability rather than personal insecurity, a distinction reinforced when he recruits Sapphire and other apprentices to broaden the nation's expertise. (Chapters 1110–1111)

Guardian and teacher keeps Sholaha stable through advancement

Azov later advises Karl that a Power Matrix should reach at least Myth-to-Immortal scale before an Immortal transition, and he continues using permits, commercial development, and political theater to manage extraordinary visitors. He clears a mixed-use arena and hotel project, opens routes for guests, and uses telepathy with staff while arranging public fights to keep rival royals occupied and their negotiations civil. These are not diversions from his magic; they are applications of an Avatar's long view to a city where status conflict can become destructive quickly. (Chapters 1199, 1270, and 1283)

His crisis role becomes explicit during major advancements. Azov is the first Immortal to react when Hawk breaks through, entering through a microscopic portal and containing the resulting fires, and he remains the official expected to respond when another advancement damages his mountain. By the millennial anniversary of his own Immortality he is still present rather than retired, suggesting that succession and regional balance remain unresolved obligations. The latest corpus leaves him active and powerful, without showing the promised transfer of office. (Chapters 1494, 1616, 1672, and 1757)

Appearance and personality

Azov is a White Dragon, but the corpus does not provide a complete humanoid or draconic portrait. His most distinctive visible feature is the golden holy light in his eyes when he inspects Karl's runic spell projection. He is ancient enough to measure his tenure across resurgences and later celebrates one thousand years at Immortal rank. References to dwarven whiskey and an old marital legend do not establish that Azov himself is a Dwarf. (Chapters 1109, 1373, and 1672)

He is patient, politically secure, and capable of dry exasperation. Azov sighs and rolls his eyes at avoidable chaos, yet prefers negotiated limits to prohibitions and can turn spectacle into diplomacy. His wish to retire never outweighs the duty to leave Sholaha stable, making restraint—not detachment—the central feature of his personality. (Chapters 1110–1111, 1270, and 1283)

Abilities and class

Azov is an Immortal White Dragon cleric and the White Dragon's Avatar. [Sacred Heal] is directly compatible with his deity and usable by him; he also explains that another cleric may fail to use the same divine spell when their patron is incompatible. The scene establishes powerful healing and theological expertise, but it does not state the spell's exact mana cost, range, or limits on injury. (Chapter 1109)

His golden holy sight can inspect a projected runic pattern closely enough to identify [Sacred Heal]. Azov also has expert knowledge of Power Matrices and Immortal advancement, and he can sense or respond rapidly to large breakthrough phenomena. These perceptions should not be treated as omniscience: Remi can still damage his mountain during advancement, and he often acts after a disturbance begins. (Chapters 1109, 1199, 1494, and 1616)

Azov demonstrates exceptional portal and teleportation control, including entering through a microscopic opening during Hawk's crisis. Earlier he also holds an office-linked portal token inherited from his predecessor; that relic's travel is item-derived and should not be used to define the limits of his innate magic. His latest sourced mastery remains Immortal, with no named post-Immortal tier in the corpus. (Chapters 1110, 1283, and 1494)

Relationships

  • Karl: Azov regulates Karl's disruptive products, teaches him about divine compatibility and Immortal preparation, and later treats him as a powerful partner whose growth still requires supervision. (Chapters 1109–1111, 1199, and 1494)
  • Sapphire: Azov takes an interest in Sapphire and the blue dragons' education, using apprenticeship to spread scarce magical knowledge inside Sholaha. (Chapter 1111)
  • Cara and Dana: They belong to Karl's disruptive but valuable circle, which Azov repeatedly accommodates through rules, facilities, and crisis response rather than exclusion. (Chapters 1110–1111 and 1270–1283)
  • Supreme Lady Matilda: Matilda and Azov are senior regional powers whose presence helps maintain the balance surrounding Sholaha and Nar. The corpus presents coordination and mutual awareness, not personal intimacy. (Chapters 1270–1283 and 1445)

Items

Azov has no standalone item in the scoped item catalog. He possesses a portal token passed down with the regent's office, so its transport effect belongs to the relic rather than automatically to his class. The corpus does not give the token a generated item page or a complete mechanical description. (Chapter 1110)
