Marquis Piris

David El Piris is the lord of Soldun's international port and Prince Elsid's closest established adviser. His recruitment, intelligence work, and logistical support connect Soldun to both the Baek family and Meltor before and during the civil war.

Biography

Eastern Legacies, Quattro, and the Soldun Civil War

Piris spends years helping Elsid recruit Baek Jongmyung's family from the East, investigating their circumstances and promising a suitable home. He has already sold that mansion to Theodore and Randolph, so he visits cautiously, asks the concealed residents to identify themselves, and attempts to limit Soldun's financial loss rather than use force against unknown masters. Once Jongmyung confirms their strength, Piris accepts the negotiated arrangement. (Chapters 155–158)

During the civil war Piris maintains spies around Cornwall, receives Meltor's expedition personally when it arrives earlier than the agreed signal system can handle, and hides the fleet near his port. He briefs Theodore Miller and Orta on Lairon's crusader, Fergana, and the competing factions, then helps lead the royal strategy. After victory he remains beside Elsid for the settlement and alliance discussions, becoming one of the associates expected to shape Soldun's next generation. (Chapters 214–230)

Jerem's Return and the Great Forest

By the undead crisis Piris has been promoted to duke. Theodore relies on Randolph's existing acquaintance with Piris and Elsid when sending an urgent warning to Soldun, while the later condition of the capital identifies Piris as one of the loyal nobles active outside the king's closely watched court. No direct combat action is established. (Chapters 307 and 311)

Appearance and personality

Piris has brown eyes and a temperament that moves visibly between anger, caution, and delight. He is loyal to Elsid, hostile to Cornwall, and practical about money and political risk. His caution can look ungenerous, but it also prevents him from escalating the mansion dispute or exposing Meltor's secret intervention. (Chapters 155–158 and 214–230)

Magic, abilities, and martial skills

Piris is not established as a magician, aura user, or frontline fighter. His capabilities are administrative and strategic: he controls Soldun's vital port, manages foreign recruitment, operates spies, prepares hidden naval access, and converts information into plans for the royal faction. The corpus does not name any personal combat ability. (Chapters 155–158 and 214–230)

Relationships

  • Prince Elsid: Piris is Elsid's loyal adviser and organizer from before the succession through the postwar settlement. His port, intelligence, and judgment are essential to the prince's foreign alliances. (Chapters 155–158 and 214–230)
  • Baek Jongmyung: Piris negotiates the Baek family's migration and helps establish Jongmyung in Soldun. The successful recruitment supplies the royal faction with its principal sword master. (Chapters 155–158)
  • Theodore Miller: Piris first knows Theodore only as the secretive purchaser of an expensive mansion, then works with him as Meltor's hero and ally. Their prior acquaintance later makes Piris a credible recipient for Theodore's emergency warning. (Chapters 155–158, 214–230, and 307)
