Baek Jongmyung

Baek Jongmyung is the head of an eastern martial family that migrates to Soldun and supplies Prince Elsid with urgently needed master-level strength. Formal and cautious in peace, he becomes a decisive loyalist commander during Soldun's civil war.

Biography

Eastern Legacies, Quattro, and the Soldun Civil War

Economic and political isolation in Western Xia leads Jongmyung to move his family to Soldun in exchange for land and rank. At Piris he immediately recognizes the concealed strength of Theodore Miller and Randolph, warns Elsid against treating them as enemies, and accepts Theodore's conditions for sharing the disputed mansion. His spar with Theodore ends as a declared draw after both violate agreed restrictions; Jongmyung apologizes for reflexively using his Aura Ability and develops a respectful friendship with the western magician. He also sets aside his severity toward Baek Dongil and asks Theodore to teach the son whose body cannot learn aura. (Chapters 155–167)

Naturalized and appointed Marquis Atron, Jongmyung becomes the royal faction's principal sword master. He duels the Lairon crusader Ruben, initially misjudges divine regeneration, and suffers a crushed shoulder while piercing the crusader's lung. After Theodore's intervention restores the balance, Jongmyung and Orta cooperate to subdue rather than kill Ruben in accordance with Elsid's strategy, finally pinning him through the heart until restraints can be applied. He survives the civil war and remains one of the associates expected to lead Soldun's next generation. (Chapters 211–232 and 238)

Prometheus and the Eastern Apocalypse

When a Soldun messenger arrives five years later, Theodore initially assumes it may be Jongmyung visiting Dongil. The messenger is actually Marquis Fergana, so the chapter establishes Jongmyung as an expected contact rather than giving him a direct role in the southern expedition. No participation in the Eastern apocalypse is shown. (Chapter 338)

Marriage, Armageddon, and the New World

Jongmyung unexpectedly encounters Theodore during the magician's honeymoon. He quickly recognizes the private circumstances, promises not to spread the news, and thanks Theodore for continuing to teach Dongil. The scene leaves him alive, socially secure in Soldun, and still mindful of the relationship formed at Piris. (Chapter 384)

Appearance and personality

Jongmyung is a middle-aged eastern swordsman who wears movement-friendly clothing and later reluctantly accepts a reinforced chest piece and artifacts for war. He is formal, humble before genuine strength, and quick to correct his own misconduct. His restraint does not prevent decisive violence: once he understands Ruben's regeneration, he coldly uses the force necessary to keep the crusader disabled. (Chapters 155–160 and 219–227)

Magic, abilities, and martial skills

Jongmyung is a sword master whose Soft Sword technique produces flexible, wave-like lines and attacks effectively from controlled distance. Pierce the Moon Style and related thrusts seek a single decisive penetration, while his Aura Ability is inferred and later identified as Penetration. The style can pierce powerful defenses and organs, but it needs spacing and accurate knowledge of the target; Ruben's unfamiliar divine recovery turns an apparently fatal hit into a prolonged disadvantage. Relationships

• Prince Elsid: Elsid offers the Baek family citizenship, land, and rank, then relies on Jongmyung as the loyalist faction's master. Jongmyung fights according to Elsid's order to subdue Ruben without creating a new war with Lairon. (Chapters 155–159 and 211–232)
• Theodore Miller: A testing spar becomes mutual respect. Theodore helps Jongmyung's family, protects his son, and supports Soldun; Jongmyung repays that trust through cooperation and discretion. (Chapters 156–167, 211–232, and 384)
• Baek Dongil: Dongil is Jongmyung's son. Though Jongmyung's strictness initially hides his concern, he bows to Theodore to secure instruction and later takes pride in Dongil's continuing education. (Chapters 159–167 and 384)
• Orta: Orta and Jongmyung are the allied masters who finally suppress Ruben. Jongmyung thanks Orta for honoring Elsid's preference for capture over a faster kill. (Chapters 215–227)
